My Story

PLEASE HELP BRANCH FIND HIS MOJO Are you someone with dog experience? Do you know dog body language? Are you interested in a dog that most people would pass on? Do you love a dog, with an impossibly cute, toothy grin? Then please read this bio, on this very special boy. He needs someone he can trust, to help him navigate life with confidence. Branch was picked up as a stray on the Yakama Indian reservation. He was walking in an orchard next to the road and had been, for some time. Though he did not willingly approach us, he was not hard to catch. He was hungry and willing to come close, for food hand outs. On one of his passes, we simply picked him up and while he did not like it much, and reacted in fear, it could have been worse so we put him in the car and welcomed him to the pack. Branch had a neglected and filthy coat, which was felted and filled with a lifetime of dust and dirt and not a speck of love. It was obvious that for most of his life, he hadn't been handled or petted and viewed human touch with much suspicion and trepidation. He also had a mouth full of broken and gnarly teeth, which we knew, could not be very comfortable and would need to be addressed. In his foster home Branch was understandably unsure of all things house related, like TV's, wood floors, phones and appliances, giving the impression he was likely a dog who had spent his life, 100% outdoors. In the beginning, his foster mom was only able to pet the top of his head and not for long or he’d react with a fear snark. Soon though, he began to figure out what he’d been missing and can now be petted over his entire body and picked up. He’s gotten used to belly band changes, which were initially a big struggle. The belly bands help with his housebreaking skills which are actually, pretty solid. They just to stop the marking, given there are several other male dogs in the home and all wear them. He has also discovered the joys of walking on a leash, though he prefers a harness to a collar and so do we, for his safety. He loves going to the park in the cool mornings and exploring and is a good shot gun rider in the car, making him a great walking, hiking, travel buddy. Branch LOVES stuffed toys and will often prance around the backyard with one in his mouth. He loves exploring his yard too and would love to follow you around in the garden or during your outdoor chores. We’d like to find Branch an adopter that's not intimidated with his initial snarls and showing of pearly whites until he’s determined you are safe and not going to hurt him. It's a learned defense mechanism and though he is acclimating to being a loved and included dog, some initial trepidation will be inevitable. In the long run you’ll find Branch to be laid back, quiet and easy to take care of little guy. that will gladly hop in his kennel with the promise of a treat and now jumps up to his foster mom craving attention. He also enjoys sleeping next to her in bed and has mastered the pet stairs. Branch's perfect home would be quiet with no kids and probably no cats. He would be fine with a doggy friend but would also be fine, without one. He doesn't need canine buddies, to be happy. He would love to sleep in your bed, go on daily walks, have a huge toy box, (and a big treat box) and to be given the time and trust needed, to become all he can be, in your care. A solidly fenced yard is a plus but he could also do well in an apartment, where there are several layers of security before he reaches the outside. Branch will be a flight risk in the beginning and a moment of complacence or inattention, could see him running out a door and fleeing in fear. We would like to avoid that by surrounding him with safety. He will reward your efforts by eventually looking at you with complete trust and love, an impossibly cute grin and fun loving toy antics. Branch is between 5 and 7 years old, weighs 12 lbs, is neutered, had a dental. He is up to date on five way and rabies vaccines, has been fecal tested and treated for intestinal parasites, is flea and tick free, microchipped and ready to face the world with you.
