My Story

Boots is a senior Italian Greyhound who was picked up from a shelter in Eastern Central Nebraska with just days left to live. He had been turned in as a stray, but the shelter thinks he was an owner surrender. Boots is a large size IG at nearly 24 lbs. He is very sweet and relaxed. He just wants a home that will let him live in peace and somebody who wants to spend time with him. He will be going to the vet for a long overdue dental and shots. He has few teeth left and may have the beginnings of cataracs in his eyes. He gets along good with all of the other dogs and likes to lay in the sun or on a blanket. He would be great for a retired couple since he isn't rough or playful like the young puppies. Boots is 9.5 years old currently, and will most likely live another 5 years or more. Boots knows he needs to go potty outside and has been doing ok so far in his first few days in a new environment. Boots is being fostered in Lincoln, NE and we will try to help transport him if you think he is a good fit for your home. Boots adoption fee can be lowered some due to his age if needed. Can you provide Boots a new home where he can live and spend time with people? *****UPDATE*****Boots has been to the vet twice to get a dental cleaning done. The first time he had a blood infection that was taking much of his energy. After two weeks on antibiotics, Boots infection went away and he was able to have his teeth extracted. After everything was done, Boots now has only 2 teeth left in his mouth and will need to be given soft food. We can already tell that he is feeling better, and seems to finally be pain free after his rotting teeth were pulled. Boots also had to have a dental wire installed due to the deterioration of his lower jaw to strenthen it so he can eat. On the roof of his mouth his k-9 tooth was so badly infected there was a hole to his nasel cavity which will heal over time. Finally, Boots thyroid level is low and he will need to be given thyroid pills daily which are a pretty inexpensive drug. We are collecting funds for Boots to cover his costs, so please contribute to help ensure rescue can help Boots and similar dogs in the future. *****UPDATE #2***** Boots is doing much better now. HIs mouth is still soar due to the wire in his jaw until it heals in a month or so. Where his large k-9 teeth were pulled there are holes that connect to his nasal cavity that are healing well. There may always be a small hole here though since he had such an infection. Boots will be ready to find his new home in only a few weeks and can't wait to have an owner that will give him all of the love and attention he desires.
