Bogie and Bacall, two beautiful black labs, were found in the Crosswinds area of Collierville. Bacall appears to be a British lab with the shorter build, while Bogie is much taller lab - Bacall weights 75# while Bogie weighs in at 103# ! Bogie is one of those unbelievably big, beautiful labs . . . the kind that people stop and stare in awe! Yes, he is a sight to behold! Bogie and Bacall's owners were notified that the dogs were at the shelter, and they never came to reclaim these beautiful dogs.
We believe that part of the reason they weren't reclaimed was that both of these labs are very heartworm positive and will need to be treated ASAP. Heartworm treatment can be very expensive. Bogie will be adopted through our "Have a Heart, Help Heal a Heart" program for our heartworm positive dogs. Heartworm treatments are done at the shelter, which has lowered the expense tremendously, and are started after the dogs are adopted.
Dogs undergoing treatment should be kept calm and quiet, with exercise limited to brief walks. Needless to say, it is much easier to do that in an environment other than a shelter. Once treated, these dogs are as good as new and will give you many years of heart healthy memories!
Many ask whether we think Bogie and Bacall should stay together. After observing them, we feel they will do just fine separated, and, in fact, we believe that they will both be even happier once they get settled in with a new family. Would they like to join a family with another dog? Absolutely! Will it be necessary to have a dog playmate? No, but understand that you might need to spend more exercise/play time with the one you adopt because they are used to having that playmate. All labs love play time, they love cuddle time, they love car rides, they love kids, they love other animals, they love to swim . . . they are the #1 dog that pet owners have . . . and this girl is an AWESOME LAB!
Adoption Fee: $85 which includes microchipping, spay/neuter, heartworm test, shots, worming. Cash or check only -- we do not take credit cards. Staff and volunteers socialize and work with the dogs on a daily basis. Most are leash trained and kennel trained upon adoption. We have really great dogs just waiting to be your new best friend!
We need volunteers and foster homes. Please email or call us , or just simply drop by, if you are interested in volunteering or fostering. These animals would love to have you come out and take them for a walk, or just sit and pet them.
Adoption Hours:

CLOSED ON SUNDAYS & MONDAYS
**We reserve the right to refuse adoption for any reason. Our first concern is the happiness and welfare of the animal. We do what is in the best interest of the animals. **
