My Story

My name is Betsy and this is my story. I'm a 6 year old female Dachshund who loves life and everyone in it! Several weeks ago I fell out of my owner's backpack and severely injured one of my hind legs. My owner rushed me to the doggie ER where the vets told him I had torn the muscles and ligaments in my leg and would need extensive care and possible surgery to repair everything. My owner loved me and wanted to do whatever I needed but, like most people these days, he's struggling and doesn't have a lot of money. He tried for 2 days to find the money to pay for my treatment but couldn't, so he gave me to Senior Dog Rescue because he wants me to have every chance to walk again. I've been wearing a special splint for the past several weeks and having rehab and the good news is that it looks like I won't need surgery after all. The not so good news is that my back leg will always be a little weaker and I'll probably have arthritis but that doesn't stop me from enjoying each and every day. I'm able to walk, I can climb short flights of stairs and, best of all, I can run and play in the backyard with my foster family. I get along very well with other dogs, so-so with cats and I'm good with older kids. I love to snuggle under the covers at night and like to take morning walks in my bright red sweater. I'm a good companion and would love to have my own "forever home" someday. Do you have room in your home and heart for me?
