My Story

Are you searching Petfinder.com looking for a dog with a fabulous personality? You found him! Beau is a gem. He has great doggie social skills, is friendly to new people, he isn't fearful or shy and is playful yet relaxed. Beau is about one year old, maybe a over one year. Beau is a boxer mix. We don't know what else his parents are, but he seems to be 2 cups boxer and 1 tablespoon of something else.

Beau gets along great with other dogs. He wants to initiate play, but doesn't overwhelm the other dog if the other dog doesn't want to play. He sniffs and allows others to sniff.

Beau took a trip with his foster family to the dog park. Beau did GREAT and had a blast. He ran right up to the pack of boxers and started playing. He wanted everybody to play with him and didn't mind getting picked on sometimes. He did a lot of running and interacted well with all kinds of other dogs including small dogs.

Beau also went off-leash hiking in Forest Park with is foster family. Again, Beau did great. He stuck prettty close to us and our two dogs. If Beau and the other dogs got ahead of us and around a corner, Beau would realize we were out of sight and turn around and wait for us.

Beau has recently spent time with many young house guests - 1.5 years to 8 years old. He's done GREAT with them and with the excitement of a house full of children. He spent a week with the 1.5 year old and they became best buddies.

Beau also went to the beach at Sauvie Island with his foster family. He dove right in and is a great swimmer! He loved chasing and biting at the waves.

Beau takes treats gently. He can be playful and frisky, but also likes to sit at your feet and get scratches. He's quite gentle for a one year old dog.

Beau was so excited to go for a walk when we first got him out of the shelter that he pulled for a while, but later settled in and jogged and walked very nicely. When we came across other dogs on leash who were growly or barky at Beau, Beau just ignored them, he didn't react back. He was polite, sniffed and initiated play with another dog on leash who was friendly.

Beau doesn't bark much, but sometimes in play when it seems like he wants to, he lets out a low, quiet, raspy wuf instead. He does this to other dogs sometimes to try to get them to play with him.

Beau has only three legs. His back right leg was amputed a while ago. Nevertheless, he's lightening fast zooming around the park playing with other dogs or fetching a ball. It's as if moving fast is easier for him than moving slowly. Around the house if Beau wants to move only a few feet, he sometimes just scoots instead of standing up and walking. Walking up the steep hills in Forest Park was a bit hard for Beau, but he did it and loved it. Beau's body might get tired faster than he'd like it to and faster than it would otherwise. Beau can go up and down stairs just fine. Beau does need some help getting in and out o f the car. He's about 55 pounds.

Beau is housebroken. We've been crating Beau while we're away at work and he does fine with that. He could probably be trusted loose in the house so long as he gets adequate stimulation and exercise. (A bored dog finds trouble.) We have left him loose in the house with our two dogs for a couple of hours at a time and he does fine. At night, Beau is loose in the house.

How Beau lost his leg is an awful story. Suffices to say that Beau deserves a loving home and a happy life. Because Beau loves playing with other dogs, we want him to go to a home with another young dog or to a home where he'd get lots of time at dog parks or doggie daycare.

Adoption Process: We are not first come first served. Indigo Rescue focuses on finding good matches between dogs and families to ensure life long adoptions. We deliver all dogs to their new homes.

All of our dogs are in foster homes. We have adoption events at the Beaverton PetSmart every other Saturday where you can meet many of our dogs at once. Click Here for our Calendar of Events. Or, if you're interested in a particular dog, you can send an e-mail via the e-mail link at the bottom of the page ("Email Indigo Rescue") with answers to the questions below. If the dog seems compatible with your situation we'll set up a time for you to meet the dog.

Do you have other pets now? (briefly describe)

Have you had pets in the past? What became of them?

What kind of exercise will you provide for the dog? (type/frequency)

What is your schedule like? How long/often will the dog be alone?

Where will the dog be while you're gone? Where will the dog be when you're home? Where will the dog sleep?

Who else lives in the home? Do you have children? How old are the children?

Are you in a home or apartment? How long have you lived there? Do you have a fully, securely fenced yard? (type/height)

Do you own or rent your home?

What changes in your life are likely in the next 10+ years (or life span of the dog) and how will the changes affect the dog? (moving, job or schedule change, school, having children)

Anything else you'd like us to consider in finding the right dog for your family?

Thank you for your interest in adopting and saving a life!
