Bart - Adopted!

March 24, 2007:

Bart has headed to a new home where, if all goes well and his new doggie sister loves him as much as his foster sis did, he will be adopted soon!

Bart coudn't have done it without the love of his wonderful foster family, two-legged foster sis Jenna and K-9 sis Clara! Thank you to the Martin family from TnT and Bart! He is going to miss you all very much.

December 2006;

Bart is ready for his forever home! Bart is a very handsome cream colored boy who is in fine form and ready to start a new life as a cherished family pooch.

Bart is living with a wonderful foster family until we can find him a new home of his own.
Bart has been neutered, tattoo'd, vet checked and has even had an eye tuck at Trenant Park Pet Clinic. We thank the Dr. Harris and his staff once again for helping another wrinkley dog!

Bart is living with another Shar-pei in his foster home and he and little Clara are the best of friends.
Bart has also met several doggie pals on play-dates and outings and gets along very well them all. He is used to living with other dogs and would be happy to live with another female for sure. He is used to having a companion or two and happy to share his home. He loves the company!

Bart is also living with a 9 year old girl, a stay at home foster grandma, her senior poodle mix, two cats and his foster ma and pa. He gets along well with everyone and adores all the attention and love he is showered with in this home.

Bart has found occasion to chase one of the cats in the home for fun. He is very good at leaving her when told but sometimes just can't resist...so, a dog-savvy cat who can stand her ground would be a suitable feline for him to live with. He won't bug a cat that give him what for! He is a quick study and has learned a enough to know not to bug certain cats!

Bart is a timid guy who likes to take his time to get to know new people. He likes to approach you and prefers to do this in his own time. He is a pretty typical Pei in that way. He is loyal and adores his foster family. Once he knows you he is happy to give sweet little kisses, come to you when called and hang out by your side.

Like many Shar-pei Bart is not the most interested in toys but is trying to do what his foster sister does. She loves toys and balls and is a super wiggly, friendly, goofy gal. Bart is just not sure what the point of it all is. He is a very courteous and polite boy so does try to fit in. He is never bossy with his gal pal and lets her take the lead in everything they do. A real gentleman!

Bart is a young and very healthy boy. He is also a pretty strong fella who has not had much experience on-leash. Nor does he have re-call off-leash so these areas will both need some work. He loves to be out and about and would love the chance to run free but can't be trusted to come back, not yet anyway!
He will need to be on-leash with you in control of his desire to run and play being curbed for now. Once he has mastered his leash skills he will be ready for a bit of off-leash time, in a controlled environment of course. Starting with a fenced in area and long-line training. To get some extra running room and to practice his re-call he goes out on a long-line and is getting used to that. Once he has been on-leash more often he will be much easier to walk and less distracted by all there is to see.
He is very eager to please and loves to be close so in time will surely get used to you on the other end of his leash and staying close when it he is ready for some time off-leash.
These are some things his foster family is working on while Bart stays with them.

Bart can be a bit insecure when left on his own for any length of time. His loving foster family did find he had helped himself to a bit of a door frame after leaving him and his foster sister alone for a few hours. This was the first time the family had left Bart since he came to live with them and he had only been in the home a few days.
However, Bart does seem to suffer some separation anxiety and will need some time to get used to being left alone.
This is very common for dogs who have lost their homes. Once Bart has grown used to his new surroundings and been given a chance to gain confidence that he will not be abandoned again his anxiety should lessen.
Ideally Bart would do best in a home where he will not be left alone much and a home where he can build up his tolerance for time alone.
