My Story

Meet Bart!

Bart is a young male Havanese - Lhasa mix. He's about two years old. He's about 20 pounds and is full grown. He is cream and white in color. He has a long double coat. He's very long and has a trim build under all that fluff. Bart is cautious around new people, but is great once he trusts you.

Bart is house broken, but did once go potty in the house where another dog had gone potty.

Bart is in a foster home with other small dogs. One of those dogs doesn't like him very much, but otherwise he's doing great. He is very playful with other dogs. He sometimes has fun chasing the cats in his foster home, but doesn't hurt the cats.

Bart is indifferent to some new dogs he meets and with others, he wants to play right away. It doesn't matter if the other dog is bigger or smaller or male or female.

Bart loves to go for rides in the car. He's not too sure what to think about gas stations, though, with people coming up to the car. When riding, he wants to stick his head out the window to enjoy the breeze.

At first Bart didn't like it when new people came to the house, but now that he's settled in, he does much better and was very friendly with the last person who came by.

When Bart's foster mom is away at work, she leaves Bart with the run of the house. He doesn't need to be crated and doesn't chew on things. At night, Bart sleeps in his foster mom's bedroom on his own little bed.

Bart loves to go fo walks and he does pull on the leash some.

Bart would do best in a home without children because he is on the timid side.

Bart takes treats gently and knows how to sit back on his back legs and "beg", but he isn't really begging, he's just showing off his trick.

Bart barks for a bit when his foster mom leaves and then again when he hears her car pull up.

Bart's new family should be understanding and know that Bart will be confused and it will take a week or so for him to warm up and feel comfortable. Because he chases cats, he should probably go to a home with no cats, but he'd love to have a doggie sibling. He could go to a home with teenagers, but not smaller children. He may do best in a quieter home. In his new home, Bart should get regular daily walks of about 30 minutes.

Bart loves to be outside and explore. He loves being pet and having his tummy rubbed. He also likes being brushed and loves to play with toys. Bart doesn't try to get on the furniture.

Bart can be on the wary side and may bite if he feels scared. This problem should decrease as he gets comfortable in his new home. Bart should go to a home with no children or a home with teenagers.

Adoption Process: We are not first come first served. Indigo Rescue focuses on finding good matches between dogs and families to ensure life long adoptions. We deliver all dogs to their new homes.

All of our dogs are in foster homes. We have adoption events at the Beaverton PetSmart every other Saturday where you can meet many of our dogs at once. Click Here for our Calendar of Events. Or, if you're interested in a particular dog, you can send an e-mail via the e-mail link at the bottom of the page ("Email Indigo Rescue") with answers to the questions below. If the dog seems compatible with your situation we'll set up a time for you to meet the dog.

Do you have other pets now? (briefly describe)

Have you had pets in the past? What became of them?

What kind of exercise will you provide for the dog? (type/frequency)

What is your schedule like? How long/often will the dog be alone?

Where will the dog be while you're gone? Where will the dog be when you're home? Where will the dog sleep?

Who else lives in the home? Do you have children? How old are the children?

Are you in a home or apartment? How long have you lived there? Do you have a fully, securely fenced yard? (type/height)

Do you own or rent your home?

What changes in your life are likely in the next 10+ years (or life span of the dog) and how will the changes affect the dog? (moving, job or schedule change, school, having children)

Anything else you'd like us to consider in finding the right dog for your family?

Thank you for your interest in adopting and saving a life!
