Barry

Barry is a wonderful boy who at an estimated age of 1.5 years was rescued from the busy streets of the old business district of Maysville, Kentucky. When his now foster mom came out of her dentist's office in mid-December 2003, she saw this scruffy looking 73 lb. sweetheart trying to "break into" a pizza shop. Worried about his being loose in the traffic, she stuck her head into the pizza shop and asked if this was the owner's dog. He said, "No, but I've been feeding Bear for about a year or so since he doesn't seem to have a home." That was "all she wrote." One more big black dog in Appalachia named Bear with a wounded back leg (same story, 1000th verse). The pizza shop owner was thrilled that Bear would finally have shelter and food, in addition to getting his leg and skin examined by a vet; so he helped "lasso" Bear and hoist him into his new foster mom's minivan. His foster mom immediately changed his name to Barry to give him some distinction from all the neglected and homeless black dogs named Bear. He made a smooth transition from his former monika and to sleeping in a warm home. His skin infection and abscess on his hind leg were cleared up with antibiotics. Barry is good with cats and, to a certain extent, with other dogs but gets too rough when playing with the other dogs in his foster home. Therefore, it is recommended that Barry be the only canine member of his adoptive family. He is a sweet, affectionate boy and would make a good playmate and companion for children.
