Barry was originally rescued from a shelter in Tucson and had been with his owner since that time. The owner has taken a job overseas and the rest of the family is not able to keep Barry. He is around 4 1/2 years old and a really sweet, nice, even tempered dog. He is NOT at all assertive or alpha, and so we are seeking a home in which, if there are other dogs, they are kind, gentle and mellow like him. He likes going for walks, riding in the car and swimming and will sort of run through a sprinkler - he seems to love the water. He does well outside in a fenced yard but will start barking if other dogs come around – he is pretty good about stopping the barking if he is told to. He prefers to be inside with his people. (He has lived in an apartment and done well.) He prefers inside to being alone outside and does sleep in the house on the floor – actually spends a lot of time indoors. He likes to bark to greet all visitors. He is good about being brushed – which should be done a couple times a week at least. He has been in a temporary home with two other dogs (Cocker 4 1/2 years and Scottie 8 months) and has done well with the other dogs. He has played and played with the Scottie puppy at her insistence and has been gentle with her. He likes to play with squeaky toys and will play a little Frisbee or ball. Can be possessive of his squeaky toys. He has been around children (observed ages 8, 10 and 13) and has done well with them. Don’t think he has ever been around cats. Barry is a very sweet, gentle dog. He seems to catch on quickly to minding and doing what his people want him to do. He would make a great companion for a single person, a couple or a family with children. He weighs 124 pounds, is very well house broken, is neutered, has a microchip and his shots are current.
