My Story

6/1/08 - Yes, he still needs a home. The WV pound did not send any info, other than Adult. The WV facility is a Pound, high euthansia rate - mostly because of the high number of unwanted dogs. They are going the best they can. I would guess his age at 2-3yr, but he could be younger. HE HAS NO TRAINING. Not frantic about walking on leash, just not trained to heel. Don't think he knows any obedience commands, he's probably been someone's pet but not someone who did any real training. Seems to have been accustomed to riding loose in car. Definitely trainable, I would guess easily trainable as he seems very sensible & "tuned in". He will squeeze thru partially opened gate & will dig - typical Irish. He is in an inside/outside run and always uses the outside part to potty, which usually means he won't be a potty training problem - as long as owner uses commonsense. (crating when no one is home, not allowing access to the entire house until you know he can be trusted etc) I NEVER say housebroken because so much depends on the people & surroundings. He has definitely been around other dogs. Children are unknown 3/25/08 - "Barney" WV dog. Seems nice, has definitely traveled before. Responding well - kennel cough. Appt neuter April 11. Baby (my Aunt named him that when she took him from the kill shelter and put him in the kennel) He has been in Happy Hounds for the past week and a half. VA tech student (her family adopted Trixie last year) brought him to Charlottesville and GS Rescue brought him to me and I took him to Sandy. He is a beautiful dog with a white chest. He currently has kennel cough. An application, vet reference, home visit and a drive to PA a must to meet our dogs! Adoption fee required. To find out more about the Irish Setter breed, click here.
