My Story

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out an Adoption Questionnaire at https://petstablished.com/adoption_form/43315/gene. You can learn about the adoption process by visiting: http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/howtoadopt/. Dog's Name: Barney (BAR0424OWSMN) Estimated Breed: Shepherd / Retriever MIX Approximate Age: 1 year Approximate Weight: 65 lbs Currently Living at: Boarding Adoption Fee: $400 DOG'S DESCRIPTION: Barney is a very sweet dog who would love nothing more than to play with you all day, yes all day. Barney is very social and would love to be adopted by a family with lots of people to love on him. He would make a very good family dog, but would do better with older children as he likes to give hugs in order to request pets. Barney has a lot of energy to burn and needs a fenced yard to get his exercise and play in while working on his leash training and outdoor skills. Barney is very inquisitive and has a prey drive, including passing cars, but could be trained out of that. Barney does not currently enjoy riding in cars and would be most comfortable in an area with nearby exercise opportunities. Barney can be friends with other dogs but it would be best if they were similar in size or larger as he likes to play rough. Barney is selective with men but can be bribed with ham, a tightly controlled encounter, and time. It is not yet clear what characteristic in some men he dislikes, but with consistency and routine, Barney can learn to be a wonderful friend and to all. Barney can't wait to meet his perfect forever family! Could it be yours? Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. K-9 Lifesavers strongly recommends all new adopters enroll their new pet into obedience training. This provides for an easier transition into a new home, ensures the dog remains well socialized, and helps form a bond between the dog and the new family. Adoption fees cover basic vetting, rabies (if puppy is old enough), distemper/parvo vaccinations, deworming, monthly heartworm prevention while in our care (if old enough), monthly flea/tick prevention while in our care, and transport costs. K-9 Lifesavers will also cover the cost of spay/neuter at our partner vet at 6 months of age or reimburse adopter for up to the amount of our partner vet cost should you choose to spay/neuter at your own vet. Foster Program: Foster homes provide for the temporary care of a rescue until the dog is placed into a loving, forever home.
