Barley is one of those Labs who everyone falls in loves with! He’s a sensitive, gentle and get-along kind of youngster whose past wasn’t so great and whose future is bright. Barley is about a year-and-a-half old and weighs a very thin 62 pounds. He’s looking forward to plumping up to a perfect 70 pounds. His foster mom, Laura, remarked: “He has a face like baby Harp Seal. Who can’t love him!”
Barley came to us from a shelter where he was so frightened by his misfortune and all the commotion that they called us right away. What a delightful boy we’ve found as he’s settled in with us! Barley knows sit and takes treats as gently as a lamb. He rides well in the car and does OK on the leash. Other dogs find him a tolerant, easy to like guy and good friend; don’t know about cats.
One can only imagine what life was like for Barley before he came to us-- if Barley thinks something bad is going to happen to him, he becomes fearful, worried, cowers and tries to get away. We’ve found he responds very well to positive experiences and that Lab favorite, treats! He’s a snuggler and likes to be near the ones he loves.
The perfect family for Barley is one that is active, will patiently build his confidence by providing leadership and positive training. Sensitive Barley will pick right up on your confidence and happiness. He will thrive in a home with someone who is home more than away – such as someone who works from home, is a stay-at-home mom or is retired. Another dog to play and hang out with who can give him the “dog’s eye view” on the good things in life would be perfect!
“Hope you’ll come fetch me soon!” smiles Barley with a happy wag.
