My Story

Ava / Female / 1 year / 30 pounds / Australian Shepherd Mix / Good with Children / Good with Dogs / Untested with Cats / From Tennessee / Fostered in Toronto **Follow Ava’s journey on Instagram: @rescueme416 Meet Ava! This blue -eyed beauty started her rescue journey when she fell into the care of our partner at a tender 14 weeks of age. After being overlooked by local rescues, we stepped in to make sure this loving girl finds her forever home. Ava is described as loving, curious and playful. She loves to play with toys, go for walks, and cuddle with her fosters. Ava also loves to play with water. The backyard hose is a big hit! Ava is an outgoing and happy girl, always ready to brighten your day with her infectious enthusiasm and affection. She is sure to win you over with her charm, bright blue eyes and adorable ears. With people she knows, Ava is full of love and tail wags. She is always ready for a good scritch and cuddle. When meeting new people she can be a bit shy, but is polite and will show off her body wiggles in no time. Ava does not currently live with children, but has met children and done well. Given her sweet, playful nature we think she would do well in a home with respectful, dog-savvy children. Ava is looking for a family that is ready to play and go on adventures. She is adaptable and can fit into any type of living situation, as long as her exercise and mental stimulation needs are met. Given her energy and love of the outdoors, a home with a yard would be ideal, but is not necessary. Opportunities to access greenspace and water would be a dream come true. Ava does well with other dogs. She is polite and submissive. In her previous care she lived alongside an older dog and learned so much from her wise companion. Ava would enjoy a home with an older, balanced dog to show her the ropes and share the joy of everyday life. She would also do well as the only dog where she can soak up all the love and cuddles. Ava has not been tested with cats at this time. As a bundle of energy, Ava is the epitome of a playful pup, and she thrives on both physical and mental stimulation. Ava is making great progress with walks. She is getting more comfortable with city life and sounds, but does prefer the trails. When not on walks Ava enjoys lots of time with her toys and puzzles. Multiple daily walks and engaging doggy enrichment activities are key to keeping her happy and content. Since Ava has spent the majority of her young life in rescue, she hasn't had the opportunity for training. Her current fosters have been working with her and she is learning quickly. Ava is food motivated, so she is easy and fun to work with. Ava is potty trained, crate trained and is doing fairly well with her house manners. She is not left alone with free roam of the house yet, but shows so much potential with her learning. Are you ready to let this burst of joy become the light of your life?! Ava is ready to be your loyal companion, bringing happiness and love to your days.
