My Story

Atlas is a gentle, laid back 2 year old Chihuahua mix that weighs 15 lbs. He is full grown and will not get any bigger than his current size. He is a low key kind of guy that just likes to sit back and observe everything around him as he's lounging on his favorite dog bed. He loves playing with his toys and other doggy friends in his foster home. He is a true couch potato, although he does get the zoomies in the backyard when he is really excited, but otherwise he is usually perfectly content lounging around. He is very self entertaining and loves to dig through the doggy toy box to pick out his favorite toys, then he will drag them to his dog bed and roll around with them. Atlas would be a great companion for someone who lives alone or doesn't have a lot of visitors in/out of the home as he can be a bit reserved with new people and tends to hang out in his kennel in another room when it starts getting too busy in the room for his preference. He will however always come out for treats because this boy loves nothing more than a yummy dog cookie or a bite of string cheese. So if a new person comes to visit, just grab some high value treats and he will soon be your best friend. Atlas is low to medium energy, but mostly laid back with short bursts of energy that he quickly burns by doing zoomies in the backyard. He really only needs a short play session before he falls fast asleep on his bed for his daily naps. He really loves to play with other dogs and his tail won't stop wagging when he's engaged in playtime with his furry friends. He turns into a silly little pup when he meets a new doggy friend and immediately wants to follow them around until they're ready to play with him. He enjoys brief, leisurely walks around quiet neighborhoods and nature trails, and would do best in a less populated area (like a busy city street). He is the perfect companion for someone who is retired or works from home that wants a cute little pup to brighten their day in between meetings. And he promises to be quiet when you're on Zoom calls, too. Atlas is dog and cat friendly, but he can be a little timid around young children. He is currently in a foster home with both large and small dogs ranging in age from 1-12 years old, and he loves them all! He is very sweet and submissive in his introductions to new dogs, and once they are comfortable, he turns into a silly, playful pup. He also has two kitties in his foster home, and loves playing and wrestling with the younger dog-friendly cat. He respects the boundaries of the older cat in the foster home. He would do best in a home with older children who understand when he needs personal space. He tends to stay to himself, but will happily cuddle on the couch if you bring him up to sit with you. Atlas is kennel trained, potty trained and leash trained. He loves having his kennel as a safe spot to retreat to when he needs a quiet area to nap. He also does well on a comfy dog bed in the living room as well. He won't jump on the couch himself, but likes to be picked up so he can sit on the couch with his human. He will notify you when he needs to potty by standing by the back door and tapping his feet until he's let outside. He gets excited when he sees his harness come out because he knows he will get to go on a walk around the neighborhood, and will sit patiently for his harness to be put on. Atlas would do best in a quiet, low energy home environment and would love to have another playful, confident dog. He would be fine without another dog in his new home as long as he gets plenty of time to spend with his human, preferably someone who is retired or works from home. He would do well with children ages 10 and older. He does need a fenced in backyard and will need to be leashed initially when in the backyard until he becomes more comfortable with his new human. He would not do well in an apartment or townhome in a busy city area. If you are interested in adopting Atlas, please fill out an application at: https://www.loveandpuppypawsdogrescue.com/adoption-application. Atlas is in a foster home in South Texas and will be transported once adopted. TRANSPORT: Currently we have monthly transports. It will be up to the adoptive family to meet the transport to pick up your new family member. Please be advised that our dogs are adopted to their forever families prior to being transported. Unfortunately at this time, we cannot bring dogs for a typical meet and greet situation, due to the extensiveness of the transport distance and it being unfair for the dogs who are not adopted to have to make the trip back. Please be advised that applications are reviewed in the order that they are received. To ensure we are honoring the dogs that we have committed to helping, we do have policies and procedures in place that we follow when reviewing adoption applications. LAPP Dog Rescue is ran 100% by volunteers, so please be mindful that when you submit an application that it can take a few days to be reviewed. Submitting an application is not a confirmation that the adoption will be approved/completed. Before submitting the application, please read the FULL description on PetFinder describing the dog's personality, energy level, housing requirements and our policy on meet and greets. The total cost to adopt is $630, which includes a $400 adoption fee and a $230 transport fee. The adoption fee includes all age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, neuter procedure, flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormer, and health certificate from a licensed veterinarian.
