My Story

Meet Athena! A few of my favorite things: sunbathing, belly rubs, car rides to anywhere Get ready to fall in love! Athena is a poised, thoughtful senior lady who, once she gets to know you, will gladly follow you to the ends of the earth and happily lay at your feet and show you her tricks as well as her belly for scratches and adoration. This adorable sweetheart will win you over with her charm as well as her wit! Athena is such a gem, and is not only house and crate trained but readily offers up both paws for a shake, and can sit, lay down and roll over all on command! What a wonder dog! This gentle girl has a heart of gold and is a staff and volunteer favorite. Snuggles, joy rides in the car and sunbathing are Athena's simple pleasures. Athena has her opinions regarding other dogs and small children in her space and is searching for a home where she can be your one and only canine queen and loyal companion. This easy keeper is ready to join your home, heart and couch! Come meet her at HSCC today and see if she could be your new best friend! Dogs: Athena will be most successful as the only dog in the home. Cats: Athena had interacted with cats in a previous home and reportedly done well with them. Children: Athena will be most successful in a home with dog-savvy teens and adults only. Type: Patient Protector Dog You'll fall in love with this dog because they may be: Cool - Level-headed, mellow, reserved, chivalrous, low maintenance demeanor Tolerant - Gracious, gentle, patient with human and animals Protective - Will make you feel safer home alone or walking down the street You might find this dog difficult to live with because they may be: Opinionated - Discerning, independent of mind, may be resistant to your instructions Suspicious - May be unwelcoming to those perceived as threats to the home and loved ones Large and In Charge - Size and strength may feel impractical to manage at times (Credit: L.E.G.S: Learning, Environment, Genetics, Self - Kim Brophey)
