My Story

These cute little guys are Artie and Mac!

Artie weighs about 9 pounds and Mac about 12. They're bigger than than the average Chihuahua -- certainly not "pocket" dogs. They are both just the best little cuddle bugs ever !!! They're about about 2-2 1/2 years old. Their foster mom, says that even though she's not a "little dog person," she is hopelessly smitten with these two!!!

Artie and Mac love each other. They snuggle together, play together, and provide security to each other. They can be very entertaining when they play together or with one of the bigger dogs or with the cat. Mac loves to gather toys in their little bed -- even big balls and ropey tug toys that are way too big for him. At mealtime, Mac gets so excited and he jumps so high that all four feet leave the ground. I encourage this because I find it very entertaining.

Like a lot of tiny guys they tend to be on the timid side, especially in new situations, but they become more relaxed once they know they are safe and secure. When they first came to their foster home, Mac, the bigger one, acted as little Artie's protector -- very touching. Artie was the shyer of the two. Since then, Artie has become braver and braver, earning him the nickname "Braveheart". Now, after some time, they have both become more trusting. They both love to sit in your lap and cuddle. Artie will dance around until you notice him and invite him into your lap. And Mac will now just help himself and jump right up. This is a big step for them.

Even though they're little dogs, they would love to have a yard to chase each other in. Mac especially LOVES to gleefully run in circles around the yard. This gets Artie going and they play chase, and romp, and wrestle. Very good excercise for these guys.

They live two big dogs and two cats in their foster home, so they are getting a lot of animal socialization.

They have spent some time with a young teen, but prefer adults and a quiet lifestyle. They are getting more adventurous and enjoy going for walks. They love to race around the backyard after each other. Mac and Artie are house trained, however, like many small dogs, they do make a mistake once in a while. The key is to know their "schedule". They are crate trained and will go right in without any coaxing -- its a safe and cozy den for them. And they're always given a little treat reward.

Adoption Process: We are not first come first served. Indigo Rescue focuses on finding good matches between dogs and families to ensure life- long adoptions. We deliver all dogs to their new homes.

All of our dogs are in foster homes. We have adoption events at the Beaverton PetSmart every other Saturday where you can meet many of our dogs at once. Click Here for our Calendar of Events. Or, if you're interested in a particular dog, you can send an e-mail via the e-mail link at the bottom of the page ("Email Indigo Rescue") with answers to the questions below. If the dog seems compatible with your situation we'll set up a time for you to meet the dog.

Do you have other pets now? (dogs/cats)
Have you had dogs in the past? What became of them?
What kind of exercise are you willing to provide for her?
Do you have children? What are their ages?
Are you familiar with crate training?
How long/often will she be alone?
Where will she stay when you are gone?
Where will she be when you're home?
Where will she sleep?
Do you live in a house (own or rent?) or an apartment?
Do you have a securely fenced yard? Please briefly describe your fence.
What changes in your life are likely in the next 10 years (or life span of the dog) and how will the changes affect the dog? (moving, job or schedule change, school, having children)
Anything else you'd like us to consider.

We keep our Petfinder pet list up to date; therefore, if a dog is still listed, it is available (but might have other people interested in it).

Indigo delivers all of our rescues to their adoptive homes. Therefore, we are only able to adopt to homes within a 50 mile radius of Portland. Sorry, there are no exceptions.

Thank you for your interest in adopting and saving a life!
