My Story
Some toads make strange croaking sounds, others like to jump around, some lie around with their legs all splayed out, and then there are the special few that give kisses to make you feel like a princess. Arthur the Toad chose all 4 options to woo his foster family... kissing being his favorite one of course! And woo he sure did do, as they have just officially signed up to become his forever home, warts and all! Who knew that the grossest, most endearing dog many of us had ever met could also charm the pants off of folks!
Way back in March they had applied to adopt him but backed out due to the failing health of their senior dog (who thankfully continues to rule the roost). Then they took him for just one weekend while Arthur's original foster home was away. Well that one weekend became one extra day, then another, then a week, and then he never left!
Congratulations Arthur, for what ever magic tricks you pulled have worked their wonders. Thank-you to the Duncan SPCA for taking this old man in, and entrusting us with his care. Most of all thank-you to the humans, Cheryl and , for falling in love with him; their 2 other dogs for putting up with his love-me-now antics; and of course the cat for making sure that he knows his place. Arthur adores your whole family, and we couldn't be more thrilled for him!
Old man Arthur has found his forever home!
From Arthur's great foster home:
He's a wonderful little guy with tons of personality - I just love him. He tries so hard to do right by you, and is really good with commands like sit, no, lie down, stay and his recall on walks is super too (I have had him off leash). I have two other dogs myself (a 1.5 year old american bulldog and a 14 year old shi tzu) and he is just great with them. He plays with the ABD (who is 93 pounds!) non-stop; they're the best of friends. He's incredibly affectionate, is good with being in his crate (after a long day of play he's in bed by 9:00 p.m.) and if he becomes a bit barky because he wants to come out in the morning, he will listen to "no arthur"... and he'll stop barking.
He's fully housebroken and even after a long day at work, he'll hold it until I'm home to let him out.
Even though he's a senior, he has boundless energy... and with his creakily back legs (up and down stairs and I have many of them) he doesn't give up. He gets sore at the end of the day... so he'll just take his time.
We have two kids: 10 and 6, and Arthur loves them to bits. Arthur is incredibly adaptable, and seems to be highly integratable.
I think Arthur having a playmate would be good and he'd do just fine with just the human companions too!
There's much more to tell you about Arthur, with his snorts and quirky little traits - and above all, he's got the best personality.
A sad tale for Arthur. Hard to believe that somebody could take a family member out into the bush, tie them to a tree and walk away. He is an older guy, incredibly affectionate and came in after somebody happened upon him by fluke.
To know Arthur is to love him.
This little gremlin of a Staffy Bull is about as hilarious as they come. With classic SBT moves, such as barking like a toad, snorting like a pig, and being a number one lap dog. He has the personality of 3 dogs jammed into one squat little body. About 9-10 years old, but don't tell him that- he knows that he is in the prime of his life. He will cover you in obnoxious kisses, and try to sleep on your face. He does not understand the meaning of personal space, but that makes us love him even more.
Arthur knows basic commands, but is just learning about house luxuries, including house-training. He should have the routine down pack in no time. This short and sturdy fellow is good with the girl dogs in his foster home, and appears a-ok with cats.
Arthur would love to find a family with a home that has a fenced yard for him to safely explore in. He also loves the cosiness of couches and beds for snuggling into. He is in love with all people, and feels the more the merrier!
