My Story

IF THIS LISTING IS STILL UP, the pet is still available for adoption! Inquiries asking about availability will not be answered. E-mails or contact forms that are submitted prior to completing an adoption application will not be answered. ***Please read this first, as it answers the majority of questions we receive*** Please do not contact us about specific dogs until you have completed our Adoption Application FIRST --- located at www.aussierescue.org Once we receive your application, we will contact you. This chapter receives only applications from applicants living in Texas and Oklahoma. If you live outside of TX or OK, you will need to contact our organizations Management Team first: [email protected]. Out-of-state adoptions are considered on a case-by-case basis. Our organization requires prospective adopters to complete an approval process prior to meeting with dogs in our program. This includes: *Completion of Adoption Application *Veterinarian Check *Reference Checks (non-relatives) *Home Visit Our ultimate goal is to screen and counsel potential homes to the best of our ability in an effort to find the most perfect match and fit for their lifestyle. Please keep in mind that color and appearance of the available dog is last on our priority list, and will have no bearing on adoption placement decisions. Please refrain from contacting members of our organization or asking about specific dogs/potential matches until after your screening process has been completed and approved. ***$300 Adoption Fee*** -------------------------------------------------------- ABOUT LOUIS: Rep: Laura Kempf / [email protected] Louis is located in Gainesville, TX and it is required that you travel there to meet him in person within 10 days of application approval if you want to adopt. We do need the entire party to be involved when meeting available dogs, including every family member and dog(s) that currently live in your home. Louis is a very special boy that was surrendered to us along with his littermate brother when they were only a year old after the owner had a lifestyle change and could no longer care for them. His brother was adopted, but Louis is still searching for his perfect fit! Louis is a loyal and devoted companion to his person. It became apparent fairly quickly that both boys had been handled in the past with a heavy hand and thus, can be quite untrusting of new people. He is generally fearful of men, especially those that approach him head-on, or point at him. Whoever adopts Louis will need to understand that he doesn't want every human stranger to force an introduction with him. Over time, and with appropriate introductions, he is all friends, fun, and games! He would likely do best with a single, female owner that is looking for a dedicated and intelligent furry friend. He is medium energy level, very treat motivated, and loves to play ball! Actually, he loves toys of any shape and size. This is a dog that loves to work for you! He is full of brains and a willingness to please his momma, enjoying mental exercises and training. His ideal home is child and cat free. Another dog of opposite sex and amiable temperament might be fine, but a meeting would help us know for sure. Louis has been good friends with many dogs, but sometimes tries to resource guard his foster mom, so this would depend on the temperament of the other dog and the behavior should be nipped in the bud early-on. Louis' ideal lifestyle is that of consistency and little change. A ton of people coming/going all the time would simply stress him out. He loves to go on trails and walking, but he is reactive to fast-moving objects or things with motors (bikes, scooters, skateboards, etc.) He has also barked at the sight of other people and dogs walking, but he has greatly improved in this regard. Quiet trails and someone seeking reflective, peaceful spaces is where Louis would thrive! He is excellent in the car (no car sickness) and will protect your vehicle from strangers approaching. He used to pull on the leash, but he is now much better thanks to the training of his foster mom and he is very good at keeping pace. Louis is crate and house trained as well. Ultimately, Louis is a fantastic companion prospect that needs the right type of person to come along. Breed or herding/working dog experience will help with his successful placement. He is 2.5yo, 50lbs, fully-vetted, and deserving of finding his forever person.
