My Story

MEET ROXY! THIS STUNNING 38lb LAB/BEAGLE MIX IS AN OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALIST! SHE NEEDS OUR HELP ASAP! PLEASE HELP US HELP HER! NRHS HAD HER SCHEDULED FOR EUTHANASIA!! Roxy was adopted from the New Rochelle Humane Society 2 years ago by a great family that at the time had a 2 yr old. Roxy was a southern puppy and had already been returned for being a little fearful. For the two years the family had her there was zero issues! They exercised her three times a day for at least 30-40 minutes by hiking, biking, running and she does it all with ease! She never needs crating and isn’t destructive at all! She is housebroken and good on a leash! She loves to play in agility courses and loves to play with other selective dogs! She even has become buddies with the cats!! Recently, the family was at a function and mom had her on a leash and one of the children jumped out from behind a car and douched them both with a hose startling Roxy and it resulted in a startle bite on the owners leg. It was not a serious bite but now she worries about the 2 yr old child in the home. The dog gets along great with the 4yr old. When the owner contacted NRHS they refused to courtesy post and the owner didn’t want to put her back into the shelter (not that they were willing to take her back!!). Their solution was to set a date to kill her!! They told the owner it would only be accepted back for behavioral euthanasia! This should infuriate any real rescue. This is $1 million shelter that received a grant from the state and has many wealthy contributors. They have many resources to help this animal and their solution is to kill it. We are not letting that happen!! let’s get this dog a foster or adopter and give this black beauty the second chance she deserves!! This is what the family has to say about her…. Roxy is a beautiful! She is an intelligent and energetic companion who thrives on activity and mental stimulation. She currently attends a doggy playdate with a select group of dogs weekly, so is sociable with most dogs. What Makes Roxy Special: *Roxy is very food-motivated, which makes her highly trainable. She's always eager to learn new tricks and commands. She knows sit, down, paw, go crate, and is working on “stay.” She is left out during the day and potty trained. She barks only on occasion and during puppy play time. *Active and Adventurous: Roxy loves long walks and enjoys bike rides even more. She is excellent on leash using the gentle leader harness and ignores almost all dogs if they keep their distance on walks. If you're an active person looking for a companion to join you on your outdoor adventures, Roxy is your girl. She loves familiar places but would be interested in exploring nature with you as well. *Adaptable with Family: Roxy currently lives with 2 adults, 2 young children (ages 4 and 2), and 2 cats. She has shown no food aggression or guarding of toys and is good at adapting to her environment. While she is dog-selective, she has begun socializing with our cat and will lay with her. Why We’re Seeking a New Home for Roxy: Due to recent incident and changes in our circumstances, we can no longer provide the home Roxy needs to thrive. Roxy lives with young children and does not find their unpredictable ways as exciting as they do, although she usually does tolerate a lot of their antics. We want to ensure she gets the best chance at a great life with a family that can cater to her needs and appreciate her wonderful qualities in a more predictable, calmer home. Ideal Home for Roxy: • An individual who is active and loves outdoor activities. A family with older children may also be suitable. • Someone who is patient and willing to continue her training. • A home with no other dogs or with dogs that are compatible with Roxy's personality. Roxy is very social with dogs her size and bigger, with proper introduction. • If you believe you can provide the perfect home for her or can foster til one is found please apply asap!!
