My Story

**Arlo is a courtesy post, he is not located at our rescue. Arlo was adopted from the Horry County Shelter and unfortunately has become aggressive towards other dogs. The home he is currently in is not an ideal situation for him as he is surrounded by dogs in their neighborhood. They are hoping to find a home where he can be the only dog, out in the country and loved by a special family that understands his issue. From Arlo's current family: "He needs a home with tall fence or a good electric fence. He is shock collar trained currently and on Prozac. He's great with people and children. All he wants to do more than anything else is cuddle and get on your lap! He was a stray before entering the Horry County Shelter and stayed there for 3 months before we adopted him in August. He has a short left back leg due to a break of the femur happening at some point and the growth plate not healing properly. He gets around great though (which is why there needs to be a tall fence because he can jump well). A more rural environment would be ideal. We're in a very densely populated neighborhood and there are lots of opportunities for him to run into dogs, whether on a walk or when he escapes, which he will try to do if given the opportunity. He has had two biting incidents, neither resulting in injury. Both were with smaller dogs and both were instigated by Arlo. He has been trained by a private trainer who was not able to get him comfortable meeting new dogs and a 6 week program that he stayed at. At that, he was around lots of other dogs and did very well, which is why I think it's an environment issue. Even when we went to pick him up we played with and walked him with other dogs and he was fine. Only when back in our neighborhood did he have issue again. We're doing all we can to ensure he doesn't need to be euthanized, but are realistic in knowing that is a possible outcome to avoid another situation in which he hurts another dog. He shows no human aggression whatsoever and really is extremely sweet." He is currently located in Hampstead, NC which is a bit over an hour away. If you're interested in meeting Arlo please message us so we can get you in contact with his family.
