My Story

Arla is available for adoption ? Age: 1 Breed: Mixed Breed Fosters location: Petawawa Is your dog good with other dogs: Yes, but can be dominant. Is your dog good with cats: Not tested, but chases them when she sees them on walks. Is your dog good with kids: Not tested; 10+ she tends to nip and needs her space. Current size: 35lbs Is your dog house trained: Work in progress. She has some accidents and is learning how to ask to go outside. Is your dog crate-trained: Work in progress. Loves going in on her own and does not like being told to go in. Does your dog have any special needs/medical conditions: No, None. Does your dog have any or display any aggression (toys, food, people, leash reactivity): She resource guards with toys, and food. We are working through leash reactivity as well. She is scared of people she doesn't know and will bark and present herself as reactive in an initial meeting. Is your dog playful: Once she trusts you, yes! Describe the dog's energy level: HIGH Does your dog like to snuggle: Yes she loves to cuddle, and snuggle. Does your dog know basic commands: working on come, nothing else Does your dog know any special tricks: no Does your dog like to go on walks: YES she needs to go on a walk every day or she is extremely destructive to the house and becomes nippy Does your dog have any fears: Yes, People she doesn’t know (specifically men), sudden movements, loud noises Does your dog have any unique traits you have noticed, whether in personality or physically: She has very beautiful colouring, and the cutest little paws. What are the first 3 words that come to mind when you think of your dog: Distrusting, playful, and energetic. In a short paragraph please provide any other details or a brief overview of your foster dog: Alra is the sweetest girl once she trusts you, it takes her a long time to get used to new people and will need a confident owner who will respect her boundaries, while also teach her boundaries. Once she trusts you she has no personal space perception and will gladly climb over you to get where she wants to go. She is very high energy and needs to go on a long walk (about an hour or more) every day or will bark and scratch at walls, doors, carpet, etc. She will need not only physical but mental stimulation as well in her adoptive home. She is still very scared of people men in particular and likes her own space most of the time! She will need continued guidance for training and confidence building. She has come so far and will thrive with an experienced and committed adopter.
