My Story

All Planned Pethood dogs and puppies are altered (spayed/neutered) and fully vetted prior to adoption. Dog breed is a best guess by the vet and/or Petfinder breed expert findings. We cannot guarantee breed, weight, age of dogs or final adult size of puppies.

Apollo is a 6 year old, 115 pound Mastiff who is a big, fun-loving, gentle guy. Although is energy level is low because he is such a big dog, his playful moments can sometimes be very funny. He is comfortable being around other dogs, having lived with three of them. I have fostered many dogs and the most he has ever done is growled at them when they invade is personal space. He has a submissive personality by nature, but he does growl and bark when someone rings the doorbell. Once 'strangers' are in the house and he feels comfortable with them, he will typically get nice and cozy by sitting on their feet and leaning against them! Apollo has been to many parades and other social events over the years and he loves it when people come up to pet him. He pulls on a leash during the first ten minutes of a walk but once he's calmed himself down he settles into a nice comfortable gait without pulling. We can take anything out of Apollo's mouth at anytime or put our hands into his bowl while he is eating without any reaction from him whatsoever. Apollo knows the basic command of sit and will do so very quickly for a treat. He's a fantastic, obedient dog with a great personality who wants to find a forever home with a family who will love and spoil him. Apollo would be better off in a home that has older kids because he just hasn't had exposure to younger ones. He might do ok if he's the only dog in a new home, but since he's always lived with other dogs he might be better off in a home that already has another dog to be buddies with. Special Notes: Apollo tested positive for Heartworm. He started treatment on 4-9-9. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers as he will have a long rough road during treatments being a big dog.
