Annie is an apx 3-5 y/o, 40 lb. girl that was saved from euthanasia in an overcrowded SC shelter. We have no idea why they selected Hippo as a suitable name for her since she was anything but overweight. In fact, she was pretty emaciated, unspayed, and clearly not well cared for!
We got her to the vet where she was spayed and had a few random lumps surgically removed (*not* believed to be cancerous) and then she went on transport to a foster in the northeast.
At the shelter, Annie aka Hippo occupied an 8’ kennel with 2 other female dogs (we have a video) and she was remarkably tolerant considering she was stuffed in a run with two younger and rambunctious dogs. However, since she has been out of the shelter, she has not been shown to be fond of other dogs or cats. :-(
Now that she’s gained some weight and feeling better, she has energy to spare! Annie loves to run/play, frolic in the yard, and chew on toys. She doesn’t much care for a crate, but her foster says she’s fine when free-roaming as long as she has chew toys/bones to keep her busy. And she loves kids, too!
Thank you for caring about a pet in urgent need!
