Adopted 12/26/09
Location: Southington, CT
Update - As can been seen in Angelo's most recent photos, his fur is growing in beautifully! Angelo was shaved due to a flea allergy, which has been completely treated, and he will soon be sporting his normal fluffy coat. Angelo's fosters tell us he continues to do great and is making good progress on learning his commands. So far, he knows COME, DOWN, and STAY. He still only sits for a treat, but they're working with him on that as well as teaching him to be more patient when going to the door for a walk or ride in the car. Angelo really enjoys his walks and delights in chasing squirrels and ducks. A fenced yard would be great for Angelo as it would enable him to romp and play in the safe confines of a yard without the restriction of a leash. If you're looking for a relaxed and friendly dog who'll give you lots of kisses and affection, apply for Angelo.
Update - Angelo is now in his northern foster home in Southington, CT and doing great! He was immediately given full run of the house as he is completely housetrained, not destructive in any way, and does not counter-surf. His new fosters describe Angelo as well behaved with a low-medium energy level. They are working with him on his basic commands which he responds to for food. He weighs about 70 Lbs, walks nicely on a leash with no tugging, rides well in the car where he mostly sleeps, and seemed to get along with the other dogs in the vet's office, where he was given a clean bill of health. Before he came into rescue, his previous owner had shaved much of Angelo's beautiful coat due to a skin condition. The vet advises he has a flea allergy or sensitivity to fleas, as many dogs do, and that Angelo should always be kept on flea/tick preventive. His fur is growing in now but he will need his sweaters and jackets for a little bit longer due to the colder weather here in the northeast. Angelo came from a home with 5 children and is great with kids. His fosters tell us he is a wonderful, sweet, loving dog who just wants to kiss everyone and be around people! He is fine being left alone for several hours but his fosters think Angelo would be happiest in a home where he has human company most of the time. They say he is the most relaxed, friendly dog they have ever fostered and will make some lucky adopter a great pet.
Update - Angelo is scheduled to come North to a foster home on 10/10. This beautiful and gentle Golden mix is up to date on all shots, heartworm negative, neutered, and housebroken. He loves human contact and would be happy in a home where he would get plenty of love and affection. His beautiful coat was recently shaved due to a temporary skin condition, most likely from being tied up and left outside in the oppressive southern heat and humidity. But it is already growing back and he will be camera ready in no time! Angelo walks nicely on a leash and is known to be good with children. It was originally thought that Angelo had mild storm phobia and liked to be near his humans for comfort during a storm. But this has not been observed since coming into our rescue, despite numerous storms, and he will be further evaluated on this point once he reaches his northern foster home. Check back soon for more updates on adorable Angelo.
TAMMY, SOUTHERN INTAKE & ADOPTION COORDINATOR/FOSTER Says: ANGELO just arrived in our vet’s clinic in Alabama from his former home in Northern Alabama from which he was relinquished. A beautiful dog as the pictures reveal, he has recently had his torso shaved, . . . apparently for a skin condition! GOOD THING FUR WILL GROW BACK, and especially so because Angelo’s coat is so incredibly beautiful. I love the balance of his coloring, and his lovely markings! Angelo is in the process of being assessed, and more information will be forthcoming after his evaluation. He is such a gentle and loving guy who was happy to walk around on a lead with me for a while, and would gaze up to catch my smile as often as he could — even when he was relieving himself on a tree — which caused him to sort of stumble. Of course, I laughed gently at his imbalance, but only because ANGELO cared more about looking at me than even going to the bathroom after his six hour drive. I LOVE TO SEE HOW THESE DOGS ARE SO EAGER TO PLEASE, and that was so apparent with ANGELO from the beginning — he knew me for a mere fifteen minutes and yet he was so determined to make me happy. When I laughed, he wagged his tail, and I thought, “OH NO, NOW HE’S GOING TO REALLY FALL OVER.” So, I knelt down to stroke his soft spot (under the neck) and tell him he was a good boy, and he buried his head in my chest. And a good boy he is, indeed. STAY TUNED FOR MORE INFORMATION ON THIS FABULOUS, LOVING DOG, ANGELO!
ANGELO is a sweet, adorable, Golden Retriever mix who is being reluctantly relinquished by his family due to financial hardship. Angelo, who is now 7, was adopted 5 years ago and immediately became part of their family. They describe him as a very well behaved, mild mannered dog that is easy to have around. Angelo is a great family pet who has lived happily with 5 children, contentedly sleeping every night in the room of their youngest daughter. He is up to date on his shots, neutered, and heartworm negative. He has very mild storm phobia, but during a storm only wants to be close to his humans for comfort. Angelo likes to walk when outside and lounge when inside. If you are looking for a gentle, easy going, and loving family pet, apply for Angelo.
