My Story

Would you like to meet the dogs in person? We will be at Lake Herman State Park (Pioneer Days) outside of Madison, SD from 12pm-4pm on Saturday June 14th. Most of the dogs up for adoption will be at the lake for you to meet! Foster parents will be there to answer any questions you may have about the dogs. We will accept applications for adoption at the event, but no on the spot adoptions will happen. If the weather is questionable, please call before traveling to Madison that day. See you at the lake!

Angel is a gorgeous 2 year old sheltie. Angel is a very large sheltie at 42 pounds. She is related to Tucker and Tessa, also up for adoption. Angel lived her entire life on a farm as an outdoor dog. She is a nice, friendly dog but a little on the shy side because she lived outside. Angel does great with other dogs but liked to chase the cats on the farm- she would not hurt cats but does like to chase them. Angel is now living indoors in foster care and is learning housetraining and getting more socialized. Upon arrival, Angel was groomed (full of burrs). She was also spayed, treated for tapeworms, vaccinated and heartworm tested (negative). Now she just needs a great new home! Angel needs to be an indoor dog but needs to spend time outside and get plenty of exercise.

Angel is spayed, vaccinated for rabiles, kennel cough and DHPP, heartworm tested, dewormed and freshly groomed. Her adoption donation is $175. We require an adoption application, references, adoption contract and home visit. We only adopt to families in SD, MN, NE, ND, IA.

Important things to know before you contact us:

If you are out of state, it does take time to process your application and find a home visitor from another rescue to do your visit. Please be SERIOUS about adopting a dog from our rescue before submitting an application.

The email address you're using is managed by one or two people. Please be patient.

The application is the first step. After we receive and approve a completed application, we will schedule a home visit.

Almost Home is run from foster homes. We have no facility for the public to come in and view pets.

We do not ship our dogs.

Thank you for wanting to adopt a homeless dog or cat!
