My Story

Amparo was a stray for several months and sheltered herself in a trash filled lot next to a gas station off a very busy highway. She survived on food thrown to her from kind passersby and water from the workers there. Once she was quite obviously pregnant, a good samaritan brought her home and to the vet where she discovered she was about to give birth. She reached out to TGPR when she decided it was a lot to try to do on her own. We brought her in and a day later she began to give birth on the foster's sofa the next morning. All day her excellent instincts birthed a total of ten puppies, perfectly healthy and beautiful! What a good momma she has been! Nursing ten puppies is no easy feat but she diligently does it 7 times a day. Amaparo is a very gentle and sweet girl. She loves to sit with her fosters and comes when she is called, the most obedient of all the dogs in the foster's home. She is affectionate and bonds quickly with people who are kind to her. She is perectly house-trained, does not chew or claw at the door but learned quickly to shake the bells at the door. She reminds her foster mom that it is time to eat, loves to sit outsdie in the yard and feel the wind. She really is a wonderfully peaceful and easy going girl. She gets along with other dogs very well, kids, and although we haven't tested her, likely OK with cats. Her only vice is that she tried to dig out and did escape under the fence where there was a gap. So the home adopting her should have secure fencing for sure. Amparo will be regaining some weight and her coat will surely improve as she has given everything to her babies. She is the dog you want, smart, affectionate, gentle, obedient, with all the characteristics that a Great Pyrenees should possess. Oh and beautiful too! Amparao will be available for adoption once the puppies are weaned, around the end of March.
