Alpha

Alpha is my name and I am one of Habiba’s six puppies. We recently arrived from Tunisia – all extremely traumatized and fearful. Every day we make a little progress; the volunteers around here are examples of humans that can be trusted. My rescuer in Tunisia did everything possible to get Mom and my siblings to safety and for that I am grateful. No doubt, I will require patience – lots of it. Let’s not set a date for this fear to just disappear. It will take time but I promise you that I can do it. A gentle hand to guide me through these troubled times and I just know that better days are ahead. We have all been through a harrowing experience and we need a minute to just chill. The dogs around here seem to so enjoy going for strolls with the dog walkers. After I have been given some time to settle in, I think I’d eventually like to try. They say that part of the walk involves sniffing – who knew! Maybe some day down the road, we can try to do some training. All I ask is that you don’t put a date on your goals. There will be no performance review at the end of this. You have to know just how soon to encourage me to take another step ahead. I’d appreciate a family that has another understanding, laid-back dog to show me the ropes. I’d probably even take to a cat – as long as the cat isn’t too pushy! Because I am quite fearful, older children would best suit me. I am probably not the ideal pup for a novice; anyone who has had experience with pups like me would be great. Since I could be a flight risk, a fenced yard would really help; otherwise, I should always be on leash.
