My Story

Hello! My name is Alice Cooper. But I am too cute for that name, so my foster mom calls me Alice! I am a seven-year-old, ten-pound Chi/Dachshund mix Alice was rescued from a hoarding situation where there were 18 dogs in the house. When she came to her foster home, she was sad and withdrawn. Her little body shook constantly out of fear. But it only took one short week until she started coming out of her shell, wagging her tail and giving kisses! Since then, this little girl amazes me every day on her journey to find her forever home. Alice would like to tell you about herself: I love my foster mom, so I will love you too! I give kisses freely and will look at you with my big brown eyes! I do a cute happy dance when I see foster mom first thing in the morning and when she returns home after being away. I am very spunky and full of energy. I am doing wonderfully with house training, but it's only been several weeks since I first ventured outdoors, so I need you to continue taking me outside regularly. I can hold my bladder and bowels overnight also! I love to go for walks now. But when I hear or see people and dogs, I do get scared and need encouraged to continue walking. But remember, it has only been 3 weeks since I started walking on a leash outdoors. When I get excited, I tend to bark but am learning the word quiet. I sleep quietly in a pen all night, away from foster mom. When the sun comes up, I do whine a little, but I normally fall back to sleep or foster mom tells me Quiet and I will quiet down! I would love to sleep in the same room as you, but I am training to sleep in another room just in case. I am crate trained as that is a safe space, but I prefer a pen to hang out in when I am alone. I get along with the little senior dog in my house. We co-exist but we don't play or lie together. I still give him kisses anyway. I think I would like a chill dog friend to live with! There is a cat in the house here and I am a little afraid of her as she hisses at me. I think I would be OK with a cat who would just ignore me. I will need help from you when meeting new people. They scare me! I am getting better every day, but don't want anyone to pet me just yet. I no longer shake when we talk to people on my daily walks, so I just need a little more time. There are no small children in the home here, so only older kids please! Lastly, I do have some itchiness. My foster mom is working with me and trying dietary changes. But you will have to help with dietary changes. And now a word from foster mom: Alice is such a little sweetheart. She has come so far in the short time she has been with me. She needs a patient adopter who will continue to work with her as she navigates what it means to be in a loving family home. She has had a rough start in life and now she deserves to enjoy the love of her human(s) every day!
