My Story

Female | 1 year old | 35 pounds | Medium energy, but can be more on the low-energy side | Does well on pack walks | Can be protective of her space, may be best as a solo dog, or a second dog to a chill, confident companion | Has been coexisting well with a cat | No kids, please | From Mexico | Fostered in Whitby | Nervous in new situations | Independent & gentle Anyone else love when dogs have the most expressive eyebrows? Well, if that’s you, you are going to love ALFONSINA. This sweet 1-year-old pup from Mexico will take one look at you & you’ll be sent on a journey into her soul. In addition to her eyebrows showing her many emotions, you’ll find ALFONSINA is a sensitive dog with many layers to her feelings. She has an introverted side & can be nervous in new situations, so she’s had a lot of learning & adjusting to do since arriving in Canada. She has come a long way! At first, she would stay in her crate, which is her safe space. Over time, she’s started venturing out & has grown to enjoy companionship with her foster. ALFONSINA could be compared to Neville Longbottom from Harry Potter — though she is a little awkward & has many fears, she is brave & overcomes them. Her fears include new places, new people, loud sounds & quick sudden movements. ALFONSINA can be protective of her space & can be on edge when new people are in the home. She is looking for a handler who will help her work through her fears, but won’t coddle her. This means slow intros & giving her space to learn on her own & grow her confidence. Some areas where ALFONSINA has excelled include: crate training (happy to go in her crate for alone time!), leash-walking & eating her meals out of her snuffle ball. ALFONSINA would likely do best in a home with no children, due to her nervousness. She may be best as a solo dog, or a second dog to a chill & confident companion who can show her the world isn’t so scary after all. She has however been coexisting fine with a cat, with them ignoring each other most of the time. With other dogs, she loves a good pack walk! She mostly keeps her distance but trods along happily in the group. Does ALFONSINA sound like the dog for you? Apply to adopt! https://www.saveourscruff.org/dogs/2024/alfonsina
