My Story

ALFIE is a high energy, playful and super athletic dog. A total partner dog.. Truly mans best friend. This dog is craving a human companion to go through life with. He really needs to be the priority in someone's life and not an afterthought. Alfie is an amazing dog with so much potential. He has been so loved before and it shows. He is a huge cuddle bug and loves to get all the pets. His favorite thing is fetch. He will chase whatever, whenever, however many times. He takes an interest in everything that is going on in his surroundings. He can be quite reactive on walks towards other dogs, sometimes people and sometimes passing cars. Alfie absolutely needs a fenced in yard to be able to frequently have an outlet for his energy. Long walks are simply not enough for him. Alfie has some pretty good obedience under his belt too! When on walks, he thrives working his skills. Heel, look, sit, down, stay, touch to the right hand, nose target and a reliable recall. This helps keep his focus on the person walking him and limit his reactivity. He has an incredibly intelligent mind. He is totally obsessed with this giant purple plastic ball and will chase it, bark at it, pick it up and run all over the yard proud and prancing! Alfie does well with problem solving games, learning new tricks, new commands and solving puzzle toys. Alfie is friendly with people. In his previous home, he was said to be sometimes aloof with men. We wouldn't recommend him going to a home with children under 13. We are continuing to work with Alfie with other dogs. Right now, he can be quite unfriendly towards them but is sometimes friendly with a female mate through the fence. It is unclear if he could live in a home with another dog at this time, so we're saying no other dogs, and no cats. He's fully vetted, 2 years old, and 46 lbs. Adoption fee covers: all vetting to age (including deworming, deflea etc ), spay/neuter and microchip after 6 months of age at our clinic, $60 rebate for completion of positive-based training classes, and lifetime support of rescue. Please fill out an APPLICATION here for consideration: www.tinyurl.com/appshdr (copy and paste link into browser window if link is not active in your browser). We do most application processing virtually and dog meets will be individually by appointment with ONLY APPROVED APPLICANTS. We are not a shelter and are completely foster-based, so there is no central place to come see all of the dogs available. PLEASE NOTE: If a dog is listed as Adoptable, he or she is still available at that time. Also, our adoption area is within a several hour radius of us in Rochester, NY (NOT including Canada - sorry!)
