If only I were 10 years younger, (or Ace 5 years older), I would keep him in a heartbeat. This adorable boy found himself in a South Carolina Animal shelter after being picked up as a stray. Amazingly, no one came to claim him. The shelter staff recognized him as a Border Collie and knew he needed a BC savvy home. Ace had a bit of a rough start. Two days out of the shelter he started coughing which led to a trip to the emergency vet where he spent 3 days being treated for pneumonia. Then a long recovery at home. After that he got “tutored.” He is finally ready for his forever home. Ace gets along great with the 8 dogs in our home although he can obsess over one or two. His best friend is our bad boy, John. They play rough and loud. When treats are distributed, Ace patiently waits his turn. He has no food or toy aggression, and he loves both! He found every forgotten toy that had slipped under beds, couches, desks as well as those lost in the woods. His favorite game is to toss them in the air and hear them bang. This very affectionate boy is the follow you from room to room, head in your lap type. He has excellent recall, has not chewed on inappropriate items and does not get up on furniture. He has shown no desire to jump our 3.5-foot fence. Ace is crate trained. He is about 90% housetrained so will need a bit more work on that. Because of a few OCD tendencies, and his need for a lot of exercise and mental stimulation, Ace must go to a home with Border Collie experience and one with no cats or kids under 12. He will not be placed in a home with any kind of invisible fence system or one that uses electronic, “stimulus” training. I think his ideal home is one with another high energy dog or someone who works from home and can give him plenty of exercise. He would be an excellent trail running partner. Ace is a beautiful boy and it will be hard to see him go. We love watching him run. He has that sideways way of running just like my first Border Collie Kelly. A long ago ranch hand coworker told me Kelly ran like that to keep from flying. Oh, and those ears! Ace is being fostered in Durham, NC.
