My Story

Introducing Absinthe, the Border Collie-Husky mix who’s more of a traffic-stopper than a traffic follower. Born in July 2022, this 40-pound beauty was found wandering the busy streets, probably thinking they were her personal runway. When Absinthe first strutted into our shelter, we were immediately captivated by her crystal blue eyes. She has this adorable head tilt and soul-piercing gaze that could thaw a snowman’s heart. She’s a bit shy at first, but once she warms up, her personality sparkles brighter than a disco ball. Absinthe is a social butterfly, making human friends left and right. She’s a regular at our daily walks, charming different staff and volunteers with her leash manners and minimal pulling. She’s also a fan of the zoomies, so if you’re an active person looking for a running, hiking, or walking buddy, Absinthe is your girl! This sweet girl is highly treat-motivated, with a particular fondness for hot dogs and cheese. We’re not sure if she knows any commands yet, but with her intelligence, attentiveness, and love for treats, we’re confident she’d ace Dog Training 101. Absinthe’s past may be a mystery, but she’s shown us glimpses of her potential home life. She likes to keep her kennel tidy, suggesting she might have some house manners. She might need a little practice and patience, but we believe she has the foundation for successful house training. We haven’t tested Absinthe with other dogs yet, but she seems interested in her kennel neighbors. We’ll update her doggy socialization status soon, so keep checking back. In short, adopting Absinthe doesn’t just mean getting a dog - it means getting a blue-eyed charmer who’s sure to bring joy, laughter, and maybe a few zoomies into your life. Absinthe is ready to sprint her way into your heart! Our adoption fees vary, Shelter Dogs are $180, Prison Dogs are $250, Puppies are $300, and Popular Pure-Breeds are $400. The price includes: a Home Again Microchip, set of shots, de-worming, heartworm testing (if old enough), spay or neuter, and a 1 year rabies shot (if old enough). All dogs adopted must leave with a county license at an additional cost of $17, this fee is cash only. Adoption fees can be done using credit card or cash. If you are interested in this dog, please call the shelter at 614-879-8368 or fill out an online application at www.hsmcohio.org
