My Story

Hunter The Beagle- courtesy post, and bio written by current foster: Hunter belongs to my grandmother, or did, until she was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and needed to move to a place where she can get assistance. Hunter couldn't go with her. Before that, she really was having a hard time taking Hunter out to poop and pee. Hunter was making a lot of messes in her house that she also had trouble taking care of. Getting old is hard. I know some day there will come a time when I have to say “I cannot have a pet anymore” and I'll be crushed. I feel really bad for my Grandmother because I know she loves Hunter. She's always had beagles and she loves the breed for who they are. Hunter has come to my house to stay for a while. My pack has a lot of energy and he doesn't know what to think of them. He's 7 years old. He handles their energy rather well but doesn't want to play. He has no interest in shenanigans. He likes the calm and peaceful life that he had with my grandmother – who had a small fenced in back yard for him to chill in all day. He loves being outside. Grandma let him sleep in the bed with her, which he loves, but he won't wake you up if he has to go potty. He will just go find a comfortable spot to do his business. So I've been keeping him in a crate at night. This makes him sad, but cleaning up the poop and pee he leaves around if I don't crate him makes ME sad lol. I still love him. I want everyone to know that. He's a good boy. During the day he will ask by circling in front of the door. He will then go outside to do what he needs. But if you don't hear or see him, he'll give up and go somewhere and do it inside. He's had a lot of time to reinforce this so it's something a family will want to work on. Having access to a yard and a morning walk will probably solve most of it. He was neutered this week which wasn't something my grandma is a big fan of, either. But he did well and he's feeling fine (she was worried it would be too much for him) because there are so many dogs in the shelter dying, there is no room for “oops litters”. I want to find Hunter a home who will love him for being the hound he is. He AROOS when he wants your food or when you've put him in the crate in a room you're not in (would do well I think in a crate in the owner's bedroom). He will try to steal your food. He will overeat so you must be responsible for controlling his portions. We're working on sliming him down. But overal he is very quiet, relaxed, easygoing, easy to own, walks great on leash and just wants to casually sniff EVERYTHING. He's actually pretty easy to own with the exception being the potty. If you want a quiet old man to share snacks with while you watch TV, this is your guy. A morning walk to smell stuff and pee on everything is great. A yard he can be out in would be best. He likes to spend a lot of time outside. Hunter is in Adrian, Michigan. If you want to meet Hunter, we can talk about it! NOTE: I wasn't holding his nose hard lol don't worry. I didn't have a treat at the vet so he didn't want to look at the camera for this picture. :) >Adoption fee is $100.00 so we ensure he is going to a great home- this will be donated to the rescue DogworksOhio >Apply Here and we will forward application accordingly: https://www.dogworksohio.com/adoption-application.html
