My Story: Is there anyone looking for an older, trained, mellow and spayed dog? If you could give me a home, please do consider me soon! I'm not in the best shape of my life since the family that had me last didn't get me exercise like they should have. Because of that, I actually weight 107# -- can you believe it! I am a "big boned" dog, but shouldn't be anywhere near that! I'm about the height of a typical shepherd...just MUCH wider! I do love to go on walks, and am a pleasure to handle, so I’m not sure why my family didn't keep my weight down a little. As a result of the weight, I do have a hard time getting up at times. Obviously shepherds have hip problems as they age (I'm about 6yrs) and the extra weight I’m carrying around isn't doing anything but slowing me down. And not only that, CCHS was told the little kids in the home used to sit on me, like a pillow. That sure hurt, but I never got mean with them though. This time around I sure do want a home who is going to respect me and give me a wonderful life. And yes, I realize I'm not going to live until my late teens, but I still deserve love and a family don't I? This girl is very large, but very gentle, easy going, and well trained. She was surrendered back to the family she came from as a puppy since a new baby was born. The home she was in simply wasn't fair to her so if you can provide her with great memories & lots of love, please do consider her. "B" is housebroken, knows the basic commands, leash walks EXCELLENT, and is a true sweetie. She gently licks the hands of strangers she meets, but we've found people are very afraid of her due to her size and looks. It's a shame, but had she not been born this breed mix and colors, she probably wouldn’t be homeless for nearly as long. We just cannot say enough about how mellow & calm she is. Obviously she doesn't play much, she's just a big lazy girl who is desperately seeking a family who can get her a little exercise at a time to lessen the stress on her back legs. We're hoping by losing 30 pounds or more, she'll get around a lot better and be able to get up and down much easier. It's just difficult for her now...so a diet would be helpful too! We know there has got to be a home out there for her, and one preferable without little kids who are going to hang on her since we think she's about to the end of the rope for allowing that. Also ideally, she should be an only dog. She has a bad experience it sounds like previously with a puppy who probably picked on her too much and as a result, she will get nippy with other dogs we’re told now. She will not snarl or growl as she passes by them, but gives warnings if they come in her face...or around her food (go figure huh?) If only she realized that food she loves so much is causing the leg problems!! Stop down & visit with "B", we don't know how someone cannot fall in love with her sweet, quite and gentle disposition! UPDATE 6/28:
"B" has started her journey to get back her girlish figure! She has found it to be a great thing since not is she looking better after losing about 20# so far, she is able to get up, walk & run like a normal dog now! We're very happy with her progress. She has also proved to be a super happy, outgoing girl now too! We're not real excited now that she pulls on a leash but with a few minutes of training she knows what is expected of her. It's nice to see how great she feels after losing just a little weight!
