My Story

Toph & Zuko (young bonded pair) Approximately 5 months old Does your family need a huge burst of friendly kitten energy? If so, please read about Toph (female brown tabby) and Zuko (male orange tabby). Toph and Zuko aren’t related by birth but met in their foster home because Toph was rescued with similar medical needs to Zuko’s and his brothers’. Both were malnourished, sickly, and had terrible eye infections. Zuko was fully blind when rescued due to lesions. One of Toph’s eyes needed to be removed as soon as she was strong enough for surgery. Zuko came into rescue with siblings but was always the firecracker of the group - his play energy was way beyond his brothers’ liking at times. A week later, tiny Toph joined the “family”. Immediately when her carrier opened, she leapt out and tackled the much-bigger Zuko, bowling him over. INSTANT best friends! It took weeks for the kittens to gain enough weight for their planned eye surgeries, and in that time Zuko started showing signs of vision! That was a great surprise. His field of vision and depth perception seem to be limited but that doesn’t interfere with daily life. Toph can see just fine out of her remaining eye. Both are now strong and healthy. These two need to be adopted together because they love each other’s energy. They both also adore humans. They are friendly and confident with everyone, even strangers. They always seek a good snuggle before, during, and after play time. Toph and Zuko’s adoptive family need a plan for accommodating a visually-impaired kitten. Consider safety and thoughtfulness about keeping the environment consistent over time. Zuko’s a bit more accident-prone than the average kitten (though that could be partially due to his goofy nature). Human children in the home need to understand that Zuko doesn’t see well and they need to show some extra care. Zuko and Toph’s current foster humans will be available to discuss and help plan, as needed. We can schedule a meet-n-greet to ensure a great adoption match. The kittens have been roommates with a middle-school-aged human child, so we know they enjoy older kids. They have never met a dog or tiny human child. They’ve been friendly and confident towards the adult resident cats in their foster home, though contact has been limited. Both have responsible litter box habits and enjoy their regularly-schedules meals. For lots of pictures and videos, check out the foster family’s Instagram page: catnerd_house.
