My Story

Winnie is an adorable kitten of about six months. He is the sweetest thing in the world, being extremely cuddly, good-natured, and affectionate! (He has the 'ragdoll' temperement, as well as the soft, fluffy coat of that breed.)

However, he is a 'wobbly kitten' ('cerebellar ataxia' is the medical term for his condition). Apparently he was exposed to feline distemper in utero, and this caused damage to his cerebellum, the area of the brain involved in controlling balance and coordination. He is afflicted with all of the typical symptoms of this condition: 'Affected cats often stand and walk with their legs far apart and may be described to have a highstepping gait (goose stepping). Cats with cerebellar problems find it difficult to make accurate calculations when jumping and so often do this in a very exaggerated way. Tremors, which in some cats get worse when they go to do something such as eating (referred to as an intention tremor), may also be seen.'

Because of his medical condition, he would need a home where he could be protected from accidents. He gets along exceptionally well with other cats and with dogs, but would be no match for an agressive animal. He also wouldn't do well with small children, due to his unsteady gait.

Other than his unsteadiness and tremors, he is basically a normal cat. He loves to play, and is smart and curious about the world. He eats with the other cats, and loves dinner time! He uses his litterbox impeccably -- however, he lies down sideways in the box to 'do his business,' and so occasionally will get a bit dirty. But he is very agreeable to being cleaned up with a wash cloth, and is pretty good about allowing himself to be bathed.

Winnie is neutered, and is up-to-date on his vaccinations (FELV and FVRCP). His adoption fee is $75. He is a very special kitten, and we want a very special home for him. If you have any questions about him, or would like to meet him, please call Sheri at 435-787-1751.
