My Story

"SPECIAL NEEDS"!!! As soon as Timmy arrived in HART's care, we knew that this sweet kitty was dealing with some pretty significant issues. Weighing in at close to 16 pounds, Timmy had obviously given up on self grooming, was covered in mats and shedding handfuls of fur...he was just plain miserable. Our wonderful vets quickly identified the possible source of Timmy's condition.....a blood sugar level of over 600! Untreated diabetes was putting this sweet kitty at risk...insulin and an improved diet was the answer to saving his life! Timmy receives 2 injections a day which he accepts quite well. He is eating a dry kibble diet made specifically for cats with diabetes. He is now self grooming and is mat free with a little assistance from his foster family. (He loves the attention and comes running when he sees the comb!) He is slowly losing some of his excess weight and is so ready to get on with his new, improved life! Timmy has no problem with other cats, but will need to be fed separately because of his special diet. We currently maintain a 9am/9pm schedule for his insulin injections and feeding. An initial supply of insulin, syringes, and kibble will be provided. Timmy also qualifies for a reduced adoption fee due to his age (12 years) and special needs. Timmy came into HART's care after his owner was moved to hospice care and was no longer able to care for him. Let's find Timmy his new forever home. All HART kittens and cats are vet checked, combo tested, spayed or neutered, up to date on all vaccines, microchipped, and on flea and tick preventative. If you are interested in any of our kitties, you must complete an online cat adoption application available at www.rescueahart.org/adopt/cat-application. The application will put you in touch with a HART volunteer.
