My Story

***THEODORE IS IN A FOSTER HOME AND NOT AT THE SHELTER. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING THEODORE PLEASE EMAIL [email protected]*** +++PAWSPICE ADOPTION+++ Theodore is a 1 year old and 7 pound cat who is looking for his forever home. Theodore is the cutest, sweetest cat. He is often found following his foster parents around meowing at them for more attention. Being a young cat, he gets into plenty of mischief like knocking things off tables, running around the house attacking inanimate objects, and getting stuck in weird places. He likes to hang out in high places like cat trees but also likes hiding in cubbies or under beds so a household with a mix of perches is a must. He can be scared of new people or loud/weird noises but with some time and encouragement he warms up. The Sacramento SPCA Pawspice Program places animals who have been diagnosed with a terminal medical condition but still have a high quality of life in loving homes until it is their time to cross the rainbow bridge. Once in their adoptive home, Pawspice animals will continue to receive palliative medical support for their diagnosed condition from the Sacramento SPCA in order to keep them comfortable. All routine vet care, vet care for unrelated illness/injury, and/or further diagnostics or treatment is the responsibility of their adopter(s). Theodore is a special needs cat. He was born with severe Scottish fold osteochrondrodysplasia. Because of this, he legs are not formed appropriately and he needs to take monthly injections and daily medications to control his joint pain and give him a good quality of life. While the Sacramento SPCA will provide these injections and medications, the owner will need to drive Theodore to the Sacramento SPCA once a month to get his injection and be comfortable giving a daily medication. Since this condition will likely get worse as Theodore ages, we suspect the pain management he is on currently will only give him a few years with a good quality of life. Additionally, because his paws are malformed, he needs his nails trimmed regularly so he doesn't get stuck on furniture. He has lived with cats in his foster home and done well. He is a little clueless when the other cats ask him to back up as he just wants to be everyone's friend. He has been scared of the dogs he has met. He likely would eventually do okay with a calm dog that leaves him alone, but would need a slow introduction. He has lived with children in his previous home but the foster parent has not introduced him to any new children. Older children and up may be best due to his fragile body structure.
