My Story

One of the famous Peppers, Serrano is a doll. He's kind, funny, endearing, and has a tender heart. Whatever you need, human or feline, he will be there for you. Except for hanging out in a cold catio. Nope, not happening. He'll meet you inside!! Serrano is a baby at heart, wanting attention, love and hugs. Serrano is a gentle, active boy who loves toys, his siblings, and a soft bed. He’s a bit of a “mama’s boy” but his mama raised him well, so that’s a good thing. He matches the energy of his fellow cats, playing rough when they’re in the mood to throw down, and switching to a gentler gear if they’re not feeling the high energy. Serrano says 'forget it.' Cold is not his thing. He's the consummate homebody, preferring to 'experience' the snow in the catio from inside only. Any frolicking on Serrano's part will be done in the confines of the room with the nearest heater, thank you very much. He's all for catching snuggles when everyone comes in and needs warming up, though. Here he is, waiting for his chance to provide such comfort. When the weather changes, well, that's a whole different story. Those sun-baked catio bricks are irresistible, the perfect invitation for a luxurious nap in the sunniest spot. Serrano loves love. He’s a gentle, patient soul who cries for attention, tolerates Zhivani’s big moods, and steals his foster mom’s shoes when she tries to put them on because he knows that means she’s leaving. He’s all about snuggles and snoozing, finding humans as soon as they stretch out to rest and joining them. Like several of the other peppers, he’s a scared kid who will need patience and quiet to warm up to new people, but he’s more than worth the wait. Serrano and Zhivani are yin and yang, two lovable boys looking for a forever home. Zhivani is a chaotic kid with big feelings who needs guidance and patience to be the best he can be. He wants so much love, it sometimes overwhelms him. He spends most mornings glued to his foster mom’s face, nuzzling and purring. While his reaction to stress and excitement is to chew the first cat or pair of people-hands he finds, he can be taught to redirect his anxiety. Serrano is a baby at heart, wanting attention and hugs, love and support. He’s right there with Zhivani every morning, happy to be in a human-feline cuddle puddle, no matter what’s going on around him. From the moment these two met, they were a perfect pair. Serrano’s patience helps Zhivani feel his feelings, and Zhivani’s energy helps get snuggly Serrano up and moving. They would love a home with a family that knows cats and who can calmly steer Zhivani’s audacious tendencies toward a healthy expression of feelings, and give Serrano all the cuddles he craves. When Zhivani first came into the house, Serrano and his soft heart could tell this excitable boy needed a friend and he was willing to be tackled and chased and chewed on to make sure Zhivani got used to being loved. Serrano loves other cats and smoothed out Zhivani’s rougher edges by being tolerant and loving, even when Zhivani was still learning to express his big feelings in healthy ways. They are not a bonded pair, but they complement each other very well—and not only because Serrano is always happy to let Zhivani have the spotlight he craves so badly. Sweet peppers, Habanero, and Serrano are still hoping for a forever home. Over half the peppers have been adopted, but a few of these gems remain. Their foster mom can’t imagine why! These kids came from a harsh situation: dropped at a shelter haphazardly, all underweight, separated from their bio-moms, tossed together by chance. But they’ve all grown into such loving, happy kids. Habanero is a squeaky wheel, rolling around the house and catio, letting her feelings be known, demanding attention when she’s in the mood, chattering at birds and lizards, and happily sporting a collar declaring she’s a “cutie.” Serrano is a love, a gentle soul with so much affection to give, it sometimes knocks him right over at your feet. Everyone he meets is a potential friend, though it will take him time to get brave enough to introduce himself. Once he does, though, he’s all in. His future family is in for a daily dose of snuggles, and he can’t wait to dole them out. Serrano is an easy-going sweetheart who craves playtime and snuggles, and deserves a home that will indulge him in both. Since Zhivani came into his foster home, Serrano made it his mission to teach this bad boy how to love. Through persistence, patience, and a willingness to be chewed on, Serrano taught Zhivani how to feel his feelings and express himself. Their friendship was an unexpected shock to their foster family, but it couldn’t have been more fortuitous. Serrano’s gentle nature complements Zhivani’s spastic curiosity, and they balance each other like Yin and Yang. When you do bring me home, make a "safe" room for me while I get used to the smells and sounds of my new home. I'll adjust better this way! This will also give me a "safe" place to go if I get scared.
