Update July 30th - Sammy is now at the Global Pet Store, Dundas St W in Waterdown if you want to pay this cutie a visit. July 28th, 2024 - Meet Sammy, he is now ready for adoption. If you think he sounds like a good fit then go to avacats.org where you will find online application forms. an adoption co ordinator will be in touch Sammy came in to our rescue back in May. He had been noticed for a couple of weeks on a farm where our volunteer keeps her horse. He must have been a dump. He started to limp and a plan was put in place to capture him. Once captured he went to our vet for an exam. He was not putting any weight on his right front leg, Xrays showed no broken bones but he did have osteomyelitis ( bone infection) caused by the puncture wounds in his ankle area. He went on a treatment of antibiotics, was flea treated, dewormed, received his FVCRP and rabies vaccines, neutered and microchipped. He was also viral tested and he was FIV & FeLeuk negative. He went to his foster home on cage rest, pain meds and of course antibiotics. Back for his recheck a few weeks later, he continued on more antibiotics but he could start moving around more. It looked like he wouldn't lose his leg. He went for his final xray last week and everything looks good. His talus ( ankle) has fused so he may develop arthritis in it later on in life, but he runs, jumps, plays and wrestles with his other foster mom's cats with no problem. His adoption fee is $250. Sammy is a very sweet, gentle, playful, loving male who will cuddle in his foster mom's arms. He would be fine on his own or with proper introduction to another non aggressive cat - Sammy is a lover, not a fighter. AVA has an indoor and no declaw policy.
