Poe *Update*

Many months ago, this handsome boy was abandoned at the shelter doorstep stuffed inside of a carrier. He was very scared. After several weeks in the shelter it was evident Poe was not progressing. He was then accepted into foster care. His name was changed to Sweet Pea. Here is a recent update from foster mom who has grown so close to this special needs cat that Sweet Pea/Poe has most likely found his forever home. Foster Home Update: Sweet Pea/Poe, like all cats and dogs who have been traumatized, needed special patience, lots of time and respect. Understanding that he behaved aggressively for reasons of fear and self-protection were key. I simply gave him time to come to me, and maintained the utmost respect for his perspective. This included NOT getting upset/discouraged when he regressed. After each of these episodes, I simply spoke softly and walked away. After a few months, he realized that I was ok and he was ok. He now comes to me. Sweet Pea still has a moment or two but the time in between is getting longer and longer. Because he has a cold I am now able to easily administer medication to him. I never thought THAT would happen. He seems to fully understand that he needs the medication and the help. Sweet Pea and I have come a long way and I'm very thankful!
