My Story

Norman and Norma were surrendered to us when their owners moved out of the country and were unable to take them with them. These 2 year-old bonded littermates are fixed, well taken care of, and up to date on their vaccinations. They will need to be adopted together as a pair. Norma is a Russian Blue kitty, and she is definitely the protector of the bunch. For the first few days we knew her, she would posture herself up and start hissing and growling, warning us to keep our distance. We started working on socializing her and after about 3 days, she started letting us rub her head and boop her nose, but after about 10 seconds she would hiss again, pretending to not like it. On the 5th day of socialization, she put her own head into my hand without any provocation on my part and she has been allowing me to pet her and scratch behind her ears and under her chin bare-handed ever since. These sessions usually go on for about 15-20 seconds before she starts to hiss again, but she hasn’t attempted to scratch or attack me. When she hisses I respect her and back off, and we try again after about 2 hours. We believe she is going to be stubborn and really make her new owner work for her affection, but we can already tell that once the owner earns that affection, its going to be shown nonstop. Norma is going to be the cat who follows you around, just waiting for you to pet her and play with her! Norman is Norma's black cat brother. He is a laid back, curious, observant boy who is very receptive to being pet, and is happy to lay up on a high perch and watch the day go by. We haven’t seen him play yet, and even though he came to us a ball of nerves, he was never aggressive, and got used to us being around him within the first day he was with us. He will let you pick him up if you do it carefully and respectfully, but after a few seconds of being held, he will squirm his way out of your arms and return to his perch. We feel that eventually, he would make a great lazy lap cat, as long as he is given the time and space to do it on his own terms.
