My foster parent assures me you can tell a difference between my greeting hiss and the hiss if her cat I don't like comes near me. Even though I hiss, I love to be pet and will rub my face on you and I may even begin to purr. If you are looking for a lap cat, I am not the one for you. I prefer to be in the room with you and enjoy entertaining you while I play with cat toys. I even love it when the humans play with me. I have been in a house with other cats.
