My Story

Pekin, IL Need a foster, foster with intent to adopt or adopter for Moose, a 5 yr old male/neutered bengal. Moose would love to take long naps, in the sun, do you have a big window with a great view? Moose is a very regal boy, with a true Bengal personality! He loves to talk, and the more he talks, the happier (or more demanding) he is. He has a loud voice, and will sing for all to hear! Moose is very affectionate, and loves ear and neck rubs. Moose hasn't taken an interest in toys, but does very much appreciate a nice plush blanket and bed. He seems curious about high points, so he may be one to sleep and hide on shelving and cabinets. Moose doesn't like to be carried, but will tolerate for a short time, if being held correctly and close to your body. Moose doesn't seem directly affected by the presence of dogs or cats in his line of sight, and he currently sees many on a daily basis. However, Moose is a very laid-back guy. He is not going to appreciate another household pet, being all up in his business. And no stress is best for Moose. Moose is currently under the care of his veterinarian, for some GI upset. Many tests have been run, and unfortunately no conclusive findings. Moose will need access to multiple litter boxes (in different areas) and they will require cleaning multiple times a day. A pellet litter is going to be best, to prevent tracking. Moose also gets his stool on his paws sometimes, when trying to cover his bowel movements. So patience and understanding are a must! Moose will require a prescription diet and oral medication for the remainder of his life. He may also be a candidate fur a raw diet. Moose also has a grade 2 heart murmur. It does not currently affect him symptomaticall. It is crucial that Moose's new foster/adopter be able to medicate Moose. He is currently taking an oral tablet that must be administered directly to Moose. (pilling device, directly into his mouth) Tough love is going to be a key trait they must possess! No skipping medication or stopping it because he doesn't like it. No feeding him treats or table food. Ideally, Moose should be placed in the care of an individual with a great deal of "special needs" knowledge and one who can carry out the required medical care he must receive. A home with older children (12+); dogs ok; cats unknown so Moose receives respect for his boundaries. If you do not have the ability, whether physically or emotionally, to keep his medical care in check, you are not the person Moose is looking for. We do not want to subject him to more "moving around". Let's give Moose the retirement he deserves! If interested, fill out an application at greatlakesbengalrescue.com
