My Story

Meriweather has had some setbacks in life but she is a resilient girl. We took her in, along with 4 others, when another rescue had to close its doors. There were no medical records available, due to the circumstances surrounding the closure of the shelter, but we quickly surmised that Meriweather was blind. Our vet determined that she had undiagnosed high blood pressure which caused retinal detachment. She has been on a low dose of amlodipine ever since, which she takes in canned food, and this seems to be keeping things under control. She has had a recent dental, leaving her with few teeth, but she likes canned fish better than any dry food so this doesn’t bother her. And on a positive note, her blood work prior to the dental showed that her values were all in good shape. Meriweather likes to play in the hallway during the day and prefers to play independently with catnip bags or springs. She is feisty and doesn’t let anyone steal her toys! In the evening, Meriweather has a “parking spot” where we keep her safe. She doesn’t even complain when it’s time to go back in her cage. She seems to know the routine. But it would be nice to find a home for her so she could live out her final years with a person/family who could give her individual attention. She would love a quiet household, free of dogs and children, where she could sit on a lap in the evenings or quietly follow you around during the day. Please consider making an appointment to see if you might be the person who could make a difference for a blind senior cat. FIV/FeLV Negative *Must be 21 or older to adopt **Our shelter has a policy to only adopt within a 50 mile radius so that if problems arise, the pet can easily be returned to the shelter.
