Meet Maria! My name is Maria, and I'm here to share my story with you! You see, I haven't had the easiest start in life. I was out there, navigating the streets as a stray, before I was lucky enough to find myself in this cozy shelter. But let me tell you, I'm ready to turn the page and start a new chapter with someone who understands me. Now, I'll be honest with you - I'm not the biggest fan of humans... but I'm working on it! When you first approach me, you might get a hiss or two. It's not personal, I promise! I'm just a little scared and still figuring out this whole human interaction thing. But if you give me some space and let me take things at my own pace, you'll see that there's a curious and playful side to me that's just waiting to come out. Sure, I may hiss when you get too close, but that doesn't mean I'm not interested in making friends. I have been making a lot of progress recently! I'm letting more volunteers touch my beautiful fur (even if it's only for a few seconds). I've even ventured out into the hallway for some walkabouts when the shelter is quiet. I really am trying so hard with humans I have learned to trust at the shelter! I am going to need a quiet safe space, like a bedroom, for a while after you bring me home where I can start getting comfortable with scents and sounds around me. What I'm really looking for is a home where I can be myself, where I can explore and discover the world on my own terms. I need someone who's patient and understanding, someone who's willing to give me the time and space I need to trust and open up. Due to my hesitancy with humans, I should be in an adult only home where there are no children or dogs. A guardian with shy cat experience is also a requirement for me as I am going to need help with building confidence. With a little bit of love and a whole lot of patience, I know I can become the loyal and loving companion you're looking for! So, if you're someone who appreciates a cat with a bit of sass and a whole lot of personality, then I think we might just be a perfect match. Once you have a confirmed appointment, you can monitor the adoption appointment calendar and move your appointment to an earlier opening should one become available.
