My Story

*** If you have any questions or would like to meet any of our adoptable cats, please email [email protected]. This is the easiest way to reach us. Please include a cell number and check your SPAM folder if you do not receive a timely response. This lovely girl is Luca! After spending over 5 years with a family, she was sadly relinquished by her previous owner and now finds herself homeless - we want to find her a new home, one that lasts forever this time. When Luca first arrived at NAWS, she weighed over 17 pounds and was initially shy and nervous. She waited for quite a long time, but was unable to find to a new home or to truly feel comfortable. We decided to place her in one of our loving foster homes to see how she would do in a home setting again. Luca's foster indicated that when she first arrived at her home, she realized that her weight was making it difficult for her to groom herself. She didn't like to be petted anywhere past her head, likely because her skin was irritated. Luca was placed on a weight loss plan and has now lost over 2 1/2 pounds. The change in her behaviors has been amazing! Luca realized her foster wanted to help her. She had someone to give her some individual attention, something she had not had in long time. Luca now BEGS for belly rubs! She knows what she wants and is not afraid to be vocal about it. She loves getting pets and being spoiled with treats. She enjoys napping in her kitty tower and cardboard scratching mats. Luca can also be vocal about what she doesn't like - she is not a big fan of being picked up. She can be held, but it is not her favorite thing. She also would prefer to be the only cat in a home - she is not always a fan of other kitties. She does appear to get along with dogs. When something stresses her out, she will give very clear clues that she doesn't like it. She is a very easy cat to read - aren't the best relationships formed through clear communication? Luca would love to find a family that will be patient with her. Ideally, she would like adopters who will give her time to adjust to a new home at her own speed. She would do best in a home with older children that understand her rough past and that she does not really want to be carried around. She has the potential to be an amazing companion cat and to make her adopters very happy. She certainly deserves a second chance at a loving home. All NAWS cats are spayed/neutered, micro-chipped and up to date on vaccines. A Cat Adoption Application is required should you decide you’d like to apply to adopt a NAWS cat. Please complete and submit the application electronically on our website at http://www.nawsus.org.
