Kelpie

Meet Kelpie! Kelpie came to us along with her mother, Phoenix. Phoenix was a pregnant stray that a Good Samaritan rescued. They were able to find homes for all the kittens but Kelpie. Kelpie is sweet, but extremely shy. She will often flinch when she's pet, and will curl up like she just wants to disappear. Kelpie has been around humans all her life, so we aren't sure why she reacts this way. She was friendly in her former home, so we think she might just be overwhelmed by life at the center and all the new humans. Whatever is the cause, Kelpie will need a special human to be patient with her and help coax her out of her shell. Cats like her often bond extremely closely with their special human and give back all the love they receive and more - she just needs someone to give her a chance. Kelpie has come out of her shell the longer we've had her. She will tolerate a little petting, although she is still very timid. She enjoys coming out and playing with the other cats, though we don't see much of her when she's out - just a gray streak chasing after the other younger cats or tumbling after toys. She does well when housed with a roommate, so we think she would do great in a home with other cats. Because she is so shy, we would not recommend her for children or dogs. Kelpie is estimated to be about a year old as of September 2023. She has been spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. With an approved application, her adoption fee is $37.10.
