Isis - PICTURES!

Darling Isis arrived at a bad time for us, our cat facilities are in transition and we were not currently accepting any cats. Somebody kind had seen her hobbling along the road and scooped her up thinking her front paws were broken. He brought her to us, and she looked at me with these big green eyes and I couldn't bring myself to turn her away.

Upon closer inspection Isis's front paws were not broken, but she does have a condition which causes her tendons to tighten so her claws are always extended and she has limited use in them. They are very visably crooked. When people see her, their first reaction is one of shock, or pity. Isis has never known any different. It does not hurt her, and she gets around just fine. Isis's condition can be a genetic defect, but is more likely due to extreme malnutrition.

Because Isis is special in this way she will be harder to adopt because people fear medical problems, extra work etc. Our vet told us Isis's condition should not slow her down or cause any major problems. She's just special. She did reccomend that Isis be an indoor only cat, as she cannot defend herself properly. Please don't turn away from Isis's listing because of her special need. She has an incredible capacity for love and resistance, her need is not a major one - but she does need love. Black animals, despite being BEAUTIFUL are also harder to adopt than any other. So she has two needless strikes against her. Please don't look past her. She could be your best friend. You could be her hero.

I do not know if this cat has ever been loved, given any kind of home or family or fed on a regular basis. She was starving when she arrived, and wolfs down anything i put in front of her like it might disappear or be taken at any moment Because of this I feed her small portions twice a day. She is underweight, but will put weight back on as she eats her fill of healthy cat food every day.

Despite the fact she has probably never known a home, she has settled into indoor life well. She uses her litter box and loves sleeping on a big fluffy pillow I have for her. Isis is cautious around other animals. She is scared of being hurt, so will avoid them.

Isis is vocal. She tells you when she wants something, or when she's enjoying something. When she's nervous she makes little growls. When she's happy (like when she's eating) she makes little happy mewls. She's a great communicator.

Most of all Isis is a love-bug. She's a lap cat. She loves to be picked up and held, she will sit in your lap, or slung over your shoulder and just purrr and purrr and purr and soak in the love. And then she looks at you with her HUGE green eyes out of that sweet little face and you just melt.

Please call or email about her. IF YOU KNOW YOU DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT HOME FOR HER PLEASE STOP AND THINK! Maybe there is someone you know that needs her as much as she needs them. She would be FANTASTIC in a senior citizens home as their only companion. Or for anyone living alone. For the right home, I will cover the adoption fee if necessary. Other than her deformity and malnutrition she is in great health and should return to a healthy weight soon. We want to find the best home for this little girl, and give her a chance at a forever home and the love and care she's never experienced before.
