My Story

Iroh and Roku (Bonded young brothers) Approximately 5 months old Please take a moment to read about these amazing young brothers – they are truly special. These two were rescued in critical condition: emaciated, weak, and blind with horrifically infected eyes. Iroh’s condition was especially fragile – he was tiny mite who huddled for warmth in the palm of one human hand. They came to NWAC just in time. They got the care they needed thanks to generous sponsors, including a double eye-removal for Iroh. Roku surprised everyone when he started responding to visual stimuli! His healing capacity is amazing. His vision isn’t quite normal but he can play and navigate like any kitten. Iroh is, of course, fully blind. His little fuzzy face is the cutest! Despite such an unfair start, these boys are gregarious, confident kittens. They love all humans, even strangers. Both crave close contact, maybe because they’ve needed so much tender care. Iroh especially loves to velcro himself against his human’s neck and nuzzle their face. He gets to know people by snuggling and climbing all over them. Roku is equally cuddly, with an immediate and LOUD purr. They’re rambunctious, playful boys. Iroh spends extra time exploring his environment, always curious. He’s got a collection of toys that make noises so he can chase and “kill” them like any kitten. Roku and Iroh have a sweet relationship and must be adopted together. Back when Iroh was so frail, Roku seemed to understand that his tiny brother needed extra gentleness. Iroh wanted to be fierce in his play -fights but Roku knew to bap him back gently and not ambush him too suddenly. They’ve kept that special understanding as they grew strong together. Iroh needs his gentle “big” brother and Roku needs his playmate and cuddle-buddy. Iroh and Roku’s new family needs a plan for accommodating a blind and a visually-impaired kitten. Consider safety and thoughtfulness about keeping the environment consistent over time. Human children in the home must have empathy for Iroh’s needs and the ability to handle him gently and predictably. Their current foster humans will be available to discuss and help plan, as needed. We can schedule a meet-n-greet to ensure a great adoption. The boys have been roommates with a middle-school-aged human child, so we know they love older kids. They have never met a dog or tiny human child. The personalities of other pets in the home can be discussed during the adoption interview process. Iroh can’t read other animals’ body language or communicate clearly with his own so we need to make a careful match. We feel these boys will settle and bond with their new humans quickly. Both have responsible litter box habits and enjoy their regularly-schedules meals. Iroh and Roku’s foster family have documented the boys’ stories on their Instagram page: catnerd_house.
